Bad day ! i am relaly sad, i am disappointed.
******* Nordstrom has influenced gary to change architect, that was my worry after gary with nordstroom collaboration announcement , Gary said " Nordstroom will help us to choice the architect, but the reality is that wasn't a choce but a change, because gary chose the great herzog Meuron duo.....
We have lost a great opportunity.... i want herzog Meuron!!!)

So wait, if I understand correctly Herzog won't be designing this building? If that's the case then that's awesome news. Herzog designed the abomination 56 Leonard so I'm glad that he won't be doing this building.

"Mr. Barnett said in an interview that his Extell Development Co. has tapped Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture LLP to design an apartment tower atop the city's first Nordstrom Inc. JWN +0.10%department store. "

I feel the same way Kanto

Just build another Sears Tower. It seems that so many on SSC idolize the building. Don't get me wrong, it's a fine building, but can't for the life of me understand why people can't imagine a better building.

I would love a Sears Tower, but instead of having this formation (1=50 floors, 2=66, etc.) of the bundled tubes:

231
443
132

I'd prefer something symmetrical and more like this:

434
313
212

Please shut your mouth before someone backhands you. It won't even come close to 610 metres.

I would too in 15-20 years, but it would look grossly improportional compared to the rest of the city. 1550 is already pushing it. I promise you won't be disappointed.

Problem would be funding. Too risky to build in the current climate.

Improportional isn't a word.

NYC isn't some painting/work of art, It doesn't matter to me if the skyline looked unbalanced. The skyline would still look far more impressive with the 2k m tower in it than without from my point of view, despite making other towers look smaller. I have no interest in people trying to restrain development in order to fit a certain ideal skyline aesthetic. Let the market have its say. If the demand is there and the desire, let such a tower be built anytime within zoning, without interference from people who want the skyline to look pretty or achieve some arbitrary ideal of symmetry or whatever. Let growth be organic when it comes to scraper development. Regulation of the skyline by some commission on skyline aesthetics would be a disaster not too dissimilar to something like the Tower Verre debacle.

A 2,000 foot tower would kill the skyline. If you think 432 Park is too skinny at its height, then this thing would have to be unbelievably thin. Something that thin and that tall gets too overwhelming aesthetically. Burj Khalifa already sticks out like a sore thumb in Dubai, and it has a large footprint. No, a 2,000 foot tower would definitely kill a skyline with a tallest building of only 1,250 feet. Not to mention ESB can dominate at its height already. I would have loved for Tower Verre to be 1,250 feet, because currently that is the best height to build. New York isn't even one of the five tallest skylines in the world and you expect that a megatall would fit well there? Shanghai Tower is already pushing it, and it's next to two monsters. No, 1,550 will be plenty fine already. That would be tallest in the world 10 years ago. Let's try to keep it reasonable.

i dont think people realize how tall 1600 feet or more really would look like in midtown, compared to what there is now lol thats going to stick out like a sore thumb, a 2000 ft would look better if theres another 1 or 2 1400+ towers alone with 432 and this tower someone should make a sketch with this in the skyline at like 1600 feet and where it would be in the skyline

People just want height, they don't care if it looks like shit. They just want to say "oh, my tower's bigger than your tower"
A stick at that height isn't good, but if you make it wider, it becomes a wall.
