One 57 already breaks the midtown plateau at 1005 ft.

225 w 57th adds 500+ to that immediately to the left of One 57 behind Hearst from this angle.

Great photo. Now imagine another One57 stacked on top of the original. That's much too tall for New York, or any city, for that matter.

Ah, F it, I did, and I'm loving it. The taller the better my friend. I actually find the current skyline far too short. Then again, my favorite cities tend to be on the tall side.

I cringe when you r saying that it is too tall for NY, or any other city on the planet, what a load of nonsense. That is just your opinion of course. I happen to love a very tall iconic dominating tower in a skyline, like Shanghai Tower or Seoul, etc, and I'd welcome a 2k tower in NYC.

I agree.. I'd love NY to build something in the 550m to 600m range in the next couple of decades. However, i wouldn't get all annoyed if a 2k tower was proposed now.

A stick at that height isn't good, but if you make it wider, it becomes a wall.
Height + Design in tall dense areas, where short towers get smothered and lost in a forest of scrapers, no matter how nice their designs.

Also, skyscraper competitions are just a fun game, i don't see the harm in it. It is a game of power and prestige. However, we all know that design is king, yet height is thrilling too. When you get both together, it is sublime.

By the end of this decade NY will have at least 6 skyscrapers exceeding 400m+ (541m, ~500m, 441m, 426m, 411m, 408m). In total about 20 supertalls will be completed. By then, it's really time to build a megatall.
That's why I'm positive we'll see at least one serious megatall proposal this decade. The race for the tallest residential tower is on. Although I think a 2000 footer will be mixed- use.

And btw there's not a city in the world where a megatall doesn't stick out!
Dubai: the Burj, twice as tall as the next tallest. Dubai has only one tower (except for the Burj) which has a roof height of 400m+.
Seoul: no supertall completed, yet they build / plan several 500 and 600m+ towers!
Shanghai: one(!) tower (SWFC) which has a roof height of 400m+. Next step: 632m. Crazy.
Shenzhen: Tallest tower: 442m. Next step: Ping an with 660m. Even more crazy.

I could go on and on. Now tell me a 2000 footer would look out of place in NY.

I completely agree with you. There is no such thing as a building being too tall. The taller, the better. A building of the size of the Kingdom Tower would look amazing in NYC even today

As per news reports on 19 Dec 2012, Extell is selling various assets. This is good news. It suggests that he is lining up financing subject to his equity interes which he will put up.

Yeah, soon Empire State will become kinda obsolete, like the Crysler Building in terms of height comparison.

BTW you height people aren't fully sane.

I think the other buildings will add to the ESB. Will still be the centrepiece of the city no matter what though.

And that is a good thing. It had its time on the top of midtown. Far more than anybody would have guessed in the 30s. It is time to move to the future. 432 Park and 225 West are the future

This, this, and this, can someone say that again! I don't understand this obsession with height.

Right now, a 600m building would only hurt the NY skyline, this building is the perfect height.

What's being build in New York that's 441m?

You guys should be happy you don't live in Constanta. 80 meters is tall for me...
A 200 meter chimney is the tallest thing around.
'No skyline...' pfft.
