I wouldn't wonder if we would see a megatall proposal before 2020.
Still 7 years to go, alot can happen until then.

Tip: Put this sentence in your signature, so you don't have to write it out in every other post you make (as you currently do). We understand that you want a really tall tower for NYC, as you barely seem to write about anything else. If you could add a little more into your posts, such as specifically where it could be put, who would want to build it or how big the demand potentially is, it would be nice, but when such a significant percentage of your posts basically consists of "I want a 600m tower for New York"!" it gets really repetitive.

EDIT: Wow, what a hypocrite I am. Better add something to this post not to do exactly what I'm slating usafarid for.

In light of all the Chinese giant towers popping up everywhere, it's easy to forget how tall 472 metres really is. Walking the length of the tower, laid down on one site, would take five minutes given no traffic. It would also be among the tallest towers in the world, and certainly among the tallest in the Western hemisphere. It would stand out even in New York, and that's saying something.

Though, I wonder what the underground situation in New York is becoming like. All that infrastructure, water pipes, Internet cables, power lines, subway lines and now foundations for yet another skyscraper. It must be pretty crowded down there.

Anyone who doesnt find 500m to be tall has never seen a tall (300m+) building before. This building would be a focal point in any city in the world, even one with a 600m+ building. And besides, what this city lacks in 600m+ buildings, it more than makes up for it in 300m+ buildings. If all the current 300m+ proposals (not counting pipe dreams) were to go through within the next couple years, this city would have 20 buildings of at least 300m in height either under construction or completed by 2020. Throw in the ~20 more 200m+ proposals and New York would be in a league of its own.

I agree. I'd much rather have 20 supertalls than 3 megatalls anyday. I hope to stand at the base of this one by 2018 simply awestruck.

Oh, and I like how your username reflected your post.

Also, don't forget that this tower will have a roof height of 500m. Even the big ones (Shanghai Tower, Ping An etc.) have their roof <600m. So yeah, this will be an epic project for New York.
Btw the wait for a rendering is killing me...

Would be epic for any city in the world. If this and the other reasonable proposals for 200m+ buildings in the city go through within the next couple years, New York could contain nearly 90 200m+ buildings by the end of the decade. It would be a skyline revolution.

And don't forget New York City has all it's 200m+ towers ( except One Court Square ) on one Island, one part of the city. While most Asean Cities have a very scattered skyline.

Theres actually a 50 story residential planned to go up next to One Court that has a pretty solid chance of being built.

Don't pressurize him, he must pay attention to the details.

While the yards and 15 penn might reduce its impact, 432 and 225 are on the other side of the plateau. ESB will still be very prominent.

Guys, I don't think ESB should stop the growth of NYC, for a mere reason it's been prominent so far and now if the other giants get built, it will lose its dominance. I think even if a 600m tall skyscraper gets built right next to ESB, ESB will still be ESB for it is composed of history, culture and the true reflection of NYC. I think it'll be an awesome thing if we ever get to see ESB from an observation deck of 600m.
Moreover, ESB's main roof height is just 320 metre, and if it is always landmarked and others are stifled to grow, the region will never have anything more than 300m.
NYC has to be dynamic and ESB should let others soar....

Agree totally. ESB has dominated midtown long enough now. It's time for a change now!

what I'm wondering is how long a skyscraper as ESB can remain standing? after a time there must be metal fatigue and other signs of aging occur?

If a tower is maintained reulary it can stand several hundreds years. If not it will crash down after 50 to 100 years
