100 years? That's it? I think the Empire State Building has a couple more centuries here. We have 800 year old cathedrals that are doing just fine. 100 years should be nothing for ESB

He probably meant several hundred years.
------

I don't know what's more exciting - the first release of renderings or the final go ahead for Torre Verre.
Either way, it will be a thrilling year for New York.

yes, several hundred years. but just if the buildings get maintained regular.

if all people would leave NYC from one day to another and never come back the towers couldn't withstand hundreds of years alone. without people the nature would come back fast. Weather and plants would break the windows, and the steel will begin to rust...and so on...

Yeah, ESB is such an icon not just for New York, but for the world. I'd guess anything possible to keep it standing will be done when the time comes.

I have just seen the model of this building, in all things - the elevator - as I appear to work in the same office as the developer of this project.

Obviously I could not just take a photo of it while in the elevator, but to describe it - this thing is huge, not unlike 432 Park, but with a more defined crown which in my mind is similar to the Citigroup tower in Midtown. Again - this was a fleeting glance on a white model. I think the estimate of 1500ft seems to be in keeping with what I saw.

Sounds awesome! If you can, try to get a better look next time and tell us as much as you can.

Welcome to SSC, by the way.

Were you able to make out if there additional details to the form of the tower, or does it appear to be a plain box with a sloped roof?

Not unlike 432 Park? I'm not a huge fan of that box, so that is not sounding good. I really didn't expect a boxy skinny tower here with a slanted roof. Let's hope this isn't the final design. I expected more from Smith who is known for curvy and futuristic structures but I suppose its the developer who dictates design when it comes down to it.

I don't think so. I remember that design was torqued with a flat roof, so it would not be "not unlike 432 Park".

It took me a few days to notice that one was torqued. It all depends how long he looked at the model, which he said he went quickly past. So IDK

I really hope we are not getting another box that is "not unlike 432 park" albeit taller with a citygroup tower crown on top.

Yeah, I can live with one tall box. And I think 432 will grow on me as it rises (like what little I've seen so far, hope it gets moving soon). But IDK about having yet another one and an even taller one.

That would look good. I also like the idea of a slanted roof.

Agree. Maybe some smaller setbacks would be good too. A straight box up to 500m like 432park is something i don't expect here.

Guys! I wanta' have a say.
We keep pouring our views, constantly, right? That's pretty much we can only do. There's more we can do yet. We can suggest the best possible render for this supertall. We can cater our supreme views on the design that we'd like to see, but all from our individual perspective and that's what it's often "ON" here.
Let me cut it short.
Say, they already have a triangular design for the building, but we might say a box would look awesome and so on...There's no point, right? Because there's no choice now. We've gotta make do, we like it or not.
OR, Say, it's not designed yet, and we aspire a cone or curvy, but they wanta' stick with a box. There's no choice for us now.
If that's gotta be the thing, isn't that all worthless consequence we're laid with.
Or will our views be regarded in the plan or this page is just meant for discussion, started for discussion and end with merely a discussion, nothing else...
Come on, have your say regarding what i'm tryna mean

How do you know it was 225 W 57th if you simply saw someone carrying a model in an elevator? Can you describe more fully what you saw? For example, were there setbacks at various points, etc.?
