We can cater our supreme views on the design that we'd like to see, but all from our individual perspective and that's what it's often "ON" here.
Let me cut it short.
Say, they already have a triangular design for the building, but we might say a box would look awesome and so on...There's no point, right? Because there's no choice now. We've gotta make do, we like it or not.
OR, Say, it's not designed yet, and we aspire a cone or curvy, but they wanta' stick with a box. There's no choice for us now.
If that's gotta be the thing, isn't that all worthless consequence we're laid with.
Or will our views be regarded in the plan or this page is just meant for discussion, started for discussion and end with merely a discussion, nothing else...
Come on, have your say regarding what i'm tryna mean
I will not have my say until you write a post that is legible.

I agree as long as the new tower will have as much grace and style as the ESB had for so many years. It saddens me to say that very very few building have any style at all. Developers build as cheap as they can and anything monumental and new can be only attributed to Beekman Tower. Possibly WTC 2 once it is done. Also some interesting proposals in Hudson yards. Other than that... nothing of note really. Height of the building is not the only virtue it should have to achieve greatness.

I notice that few people are dismayed that the new building is apparently "not unlike 432 park" according to the witness. Even if it has a crown, I hope the tower won't be a straight up box with hard edges. Smith is not usually known for boxy towers, rather his use of curves (Trump, Jin Mao, Burj, etc). I would be relatively pleased with a sloping tower with some curved elemets (edges, etc). I am now sorry that the previous torqued design did not win given such reports. I will of course be excited about this tower for its sheer height, but I really hoped that the design would be on the more innovative side which looks less likely as of now.

Because what other tower that tall is proposed? It is obvious that this model was very tall according to the source.

I wouldn't call Waterview a box. 7WTC, 432 Park, Seagrams, TWT, those are boxes. Waterview's crown and setbacks at the top make it "less boxy". Just my opinion.

Anyway, RW always like's to throw in a Chicago tower for comparison to stir things up.

It's a box, but for the crown.

So by that logic ESB is a box.

And that's with the implication that boxes are bad?

I would say classic architecture is popular for a reason. People just like details on the whole, hence boxes will never be that popular with the average joe unless they have an interesting facade.

Again - it really was a fleeting glance - but to answer the question of why I thought it was 225 West 57th street, it looked to have already incorporated 432 park and One 57. The crown looked to go up at an angle towards the sky. But it certainly looked boxy to me and very tall.

Interestingly I previously saw the Hudson Yards project too before it was announced but didn't realize it at the time until I saw the the plans on SSC. I work at 11 West 42nd Street so the developers must be listed somewhere I hope.

So you aren't sure it's this building? Sorry than, I'd rather wait on a more reliable source.
