We know that demolition is currently ongoing on-site and excavation has yet to start. We also know that permits are continuing to be filed for the site and adjoining sites.

Given this activity when do you think we will see a final render? I was thinking 4-5 months from now, does that sound reasonable?

Hard to predict. You don't know if they will release renders before construction starts.

One57 was rising already before we got renderings. Same could happen here.

Yep, One57 was several stories up with no renderings released. I remember how everyone was anxious to finally see some. If this tower starts rising without any plans avaible to the public, SSCers will go crazy, including me lol.
Btw I think the maximum height will be 1650ft. A real pain in the ass would be 1640ft (499,9m).

That means absolutely nothing. Cesar Pelli designed what was then the world's tallest towers, and first outside U.S. Then he build another very tall tower, the IFC in Hong Kong, although not as tall as Petronas. Later he designed 3 or 4 towers in Buenos Aires, Capital of his native country, none of them taller than 170 meters. As a matter of fact, since Petronas an IFC he has designed several tall towers worldwide, but none of them as tall as those, anywhere in the world.
They are just the architects, they design what it's told. If they are hired to build a one story building, that's what they do.
I think this one would end up at about 1700 ft. which is tall enough. maybe at about 1800 maximum, just if Barnett wants this to be the absolutelly tallest building in the city and in the US. but building aditional meters costs a lot of $$$$$$$. If it is profitable for him (and he's allowed to) he may. If not, he certainly will not.

I think this time it is more much likely that they show the renderings by the time they start construction or a little bit earlier. I mean, this is a building that is supposed to be much more iconic than One57, this is going to be the highest point (literally) of his career as a developer, So far, it will be the tallest building by roof of the city and the entire U.S., and maybe the tallest of all (by surpassing the 1WTC antenna/spire), so I think he will advertise it well, when the time comes.

When the DOB finally approves the. NB application, we will get some idea as to what it looks like from the zoning schematics.

I doubt that it will be in the 10 highest to roof when it is complete unless it is built very quickly.
Assuming 472m is actually the roof, there are currently 3 buildings with higher roofs:
Burj Khalifa: ~600m
Abraj Al Bait: ~560m
SWFC: ~490m

ICC: ~ 470m
Taipei 101: ~ 450m

But there are several under construction:
Ping An: ~550m+
Shanghai Tower: ~550m
Goldin 117: ~550m
Lotte World Tower: ~500m
Chow Tao Fook: ~500m

Actually if construction started really soon, and it went up really quickly, it may be able to get in the top 10 (to roof) as long as the top is actually the roof.

The ICC in Hong Kong has a roof height of 1,587 feet/483 meters, so it could be behind that. I don't want to go through all of the buildings because some have controversial roof heights.

However, this building is definitely in the running for being in the top 10 worldwide in roof height. A lot of it depends on construction speed.

Ping An and Goldin Finance 117 may very well not be completed for another 3+ years. I just don't see this building being finished before those two.

Not exactly, the Empire State was the third tallest building of New York for thirty years, while the Twin Towers existed.

It will likely be behind the following 6 buildings in roof height when completed:
1. Burj Khalifa
2. Shanghai Tower
3. Goldin Finance 117
4. Ping An International Finance Center
5. Royal Mecca Hotel Clock Tower
6. Chow Tai Fook Guangzhou

Another 7 buildings will be close to this building in roof height and in close competition:
1. Zhongguo Zun
2. Lotte World Tower
3. Lotte Town Tower
4. Chow Tai Fook Binhai Center
5. Shanghai World Financial Center
6. International Commerce Center (Hong Kong)
7. International Commerce Center (Chongqing)

Finally, 4 buildings will be taller than this one but will likely finish later.
1. Kingdom Tower
2. Greenland Center (Wuhan)
3. Greenland Center (Dalian)
4. Rose Rock International Finance Center

Who cares? NY doesn't need to compete with these strivers. They lack NY's grandeur.

The troika, London, Paris, and NY, don't need 600m towers to demonstrate that they've arrived. The troika is the gold-standard.

I seriously question all the people with a 600m tower obsession. In most cities that have a building over 600m (atm 2) and in most cities that are building them , or proposing. They will be isolated buildings, with a major lack in integration and propably a nightmare when it comes to infrastructure and the creation of a coherent look within itīs cities. I am glad that NYC is developing in a slow but steady pace, integrates itīs buildings into the fabric that evovled over 300years+ and creates canyons, which are unique. And most importantly, builds by needs, and not pipe dreams. Height is not everything, and even if this one ends with JUST a height of 500m. This is still fraking tall. A half kilometer straight up into the sky. I bet you 600m lovers/obsessionists havenīt seen a real supertall before. Because you wouldīve been in awe by JUST 300M!!!!!!!!!!!Not to mention twice of that.
