Ha, or Dubai/Mecca/Jeddah/(perhaps Seoul)!

If Gary Barnett builds a 2000ft tower I'll eat CROW for breakfast ! The statistical probability of that event occurring is probably below 1%.

I agree and btw, if that happens i will join you!

Seriously though, i think there is a good possibility Gary builds this to 500m if he can get the air rights.

Either way i'm happy with 1600 + ft if the crown will push it up to this or even if it stays at 1550.

The tallest building i ever saw was the willis tower and its magnificant!! It would just be nice to have a skyscraper pushing over 470m gracing our magnificent skyline.

Alright, usafarid, I have a proposition for you. If the building exceeds 2,000 feet, I will give you $1,000 from money I've earned over the past year as a soccer referee. However, if it doesn't exceed 2,000 feet, then you have to leave the forum and never return. Do we have a deal?

Whatever this project ends up looking like at the top ... or how tall it ends up being ... am I right in understanding that the facades of two older buildings will be preserved in the demolition process and integrated into the street level experience of the tower?

What is the 2nd facade to be preserved? The only one i'm aware of is the facade of the 1780 broadway (BFGoodrich Bldng) which will be integrated into 225 W 57th and probably will be used as the hotel portion of the building.

A few years back the landmark commission was trying to landmark a 2nd site owned by Goodrich if that is what you are referring to, but Extell had successfully lobbied against that buildings preservation. If the preservation had been successful with that 2nd building, it would have changed the dynamics of this project.

So the more "classic" street experience would be just on the broadway side of this tower.

So true I wish there was a rule one week one post for threads that don't have either render and/or u/c status It's so tiresome visiting this thread for no updates over and over.

I went to Google maps to get a better sense of the site, even though the images are dated as far as the demolition is concerned.

Looking down 57th St, with the crane for One57 visible. The red brick facade that is being retained (1780 B'way) is prominent at center left::

Moving slightly south, the two netted buildings being demolished are in view. You can see the ESSEX HOUSE sign peeking through at upper right:

Comparing the two similar buildings along the former "Automobile Row", 1780 Broadway (the facade is staying) and 225 W 57th Street (demolished):

It's s shame when old structures are demolished, but there are still many grand buildings from earlier eras still standing in New York City. One of these is just down the block from 225 W 57th: the Osborne apartments, completed in 1885. You can see the Extell's tower location farther down the block from the Osborne (on the left). The trees of Central Park South are visible on the right, two blocks north of 57th Street.

Osborne Lobby:
