Looking through the New York supertalls thread I just realized something: the city is going to have a lot of 80+ floors towers:

- 432 Park Avenue: 89 floors
- 225W57thSt: 88 floors
- 2WTC: 88 floors
- Hudson Yards North Tower: 80 floors
- 3WTC: 80 floors

... but not a single tower with 90 floors!

And of course we have 2 towers over 100 floors:
- 1WTC: 104 floors
- ESB: 103 floors

If it weren't for the Nordstrom store, I'm pretty sure we would see 100 floors here.

New York is gaining a lot of verticality with it's new developments. I don't understand the comments I've seen around here about it falling behind other cities, it seems to be holding it's own.

There are people here on SSC who think that every city not building a megatall is falling behind. They tend to forget that, in fact, there's not a single megatall out there with a roof height > 600m (except the Burj).

New York will see at least 5(!) 400m+ (by roof) towers rise this decade.

That person tends to lurk on this thread, don't they? I don't think we need to mention any names.

True, and actually that isn't even that much because NYC has many towers with very high floor height, so not that much floors.
If 8 Spruce st had 100 floors it wouldn't even be over 350m. And if the Cityspire Center had 100 floors it would be around 330m.

I don't think that is true, shouldn't they first have to raze 225 West 57th Street down. Where did you get that from?

Yeah there really isnt a true 100 story building in New York. At least not in the traditional sense of a well defined, unconditionally habitable floor of significant size.

For the umpteenth time, they will not build a 1700ft tower (or a 2000ft tower for that matter) unless the demand calls for it. America does not build trophy towers. If there is a demand for a tall building, then we build a tall building. Building unreasonably high towers just to have them 50% empty is not economically viable. Plus, building tall towers in general is not in high demand because the amount of elevators needed increases significantly as more floors are needed to be serviced.

While it's a possibility, do not expect this to be as high as you wish just for aesthetics.
