The grocery store is surrounded by netting and will be pulled down soon. Here are my pics from last night.

Now we're talking. Thanks for taking and sharing these pics. Love it how NYC is building megatowers in such dense area's. Unique in the world as far as I can tell.

The netting isn't new. That has been there probably for at least 6 months.

The rubble on the ground does look new so maybe that is a sign of some progress.

I have no doubt he will not disappoint. I listened to one of his interviews once and spoke about one of his guiding principles when he designs. He called it a contextual approach, which it's a philosophy relating the buildings to the culture and the character of the place they are in. He talked about his favorite skyscraper, the Hancock in Chicago because it is Chicago to him. He talked about the Jin Mao tower as one of the example by using his words...

"You know it is a Chinese Building, you know it feels like China. You know it's part of the culture, but when you visit it, You see it. When you are around it, you also know it was built in a particular time in the present and not in the distant past".

Now replace China(ese) with New York and I think this is what we are going to get for the Nordstrom Tower. We are going to have a treat.

When I think Chicago I think sleek and modern.

When I think New York I think 1930's deco or dominance.

I'm guessing we'll have something along those lines in terms of a "modern-take" on 1930's deco, dominance or a combination. This architect seems to know what he's doing.

Problem is New York is known for spires and this lacks one. Would be surprised by art deco being right next to One57, though maybe it doesn't matter.

Agreed, NYC has already enough art deco. Now it's time for something modern, something like the ICC in Hong Kong

I wish this will have a super modern shape, that resembles a sun ray, like the old obelisks in egypt did. With a subtle art-deco element to it. Enclosed in glass and steel. On top of that, add a gotham feel to it, and i am drooling 24/7.

Relax everybody!! i don't think he is going to go all Art Deco on us. Nordstrom will have input as they had requested ASG+G to be the architect. Meaning Adrian Smith's reputation is modern and supertall and that is, what i am sure the expectation from Nordstrom will be.

What was the first thing that came to all of our minds when we heard about Adrian Smith? That is the expectation from Nordstrom.

I am sure his design is not going to be out there and that it would be respectful as to what NY should be. It's not going to the Jin Mao tower thrown into the middle of manhattan. I think if you put the ICC tower or the Pin An tower in manhattan we all can say and agree that is NY. So I think we get something like that.

Art Deco reflected a period of time and NY had many periods and NYC is undergoing a new phase of architecture right now in which Adrian can draw from. lol! NY is just not about spires and Art Deco and i hope Art Deco will not be the major influence for NYC building being constructed into the future. Please no.

I think Smith is a visionary first and foremost and he will give us something what NY is today and should be into the future and hopefully something we can all say... Hey that is NY.

Wow! If I were to design it, I'd bring a refined version of "already-so-wonderful" The Shard so it'd put into perspective a revolutionized skyline of Midtown, no matter which the standpoint of view is.
But right now regarding any good news, I'm like "staring to the western horizon thinking The Sun will rise to break the dark"

AS+GG have been known lately for their curvy towers, which I've expressed earlier that I'm not hugely keen on. But did you guys all see their Imperial Tower design for Mumbai? It's genius. I would take this tower in a heartbeat.

AS+GG

We're in good hands here.

I would say no because this is in midtown and the world trade center is near the wall street, so they are in completely different skylines of New York.
