The Santos Dumont airport is preparing to receive an attachment function where a shopping center and a hotel to better accommodate passengers using the airport services. The project will be very useful, given that the airport may close due to different weather and flights may be canceled or delayed at any time and rescheduled for short. The airport will also be able to wait more comfortably until the time of shipment. Management expects that the airport can meet the high demand that will be generated due to the Olympic Games that will take place in 2016.

Looks wonderful! Now I can see how the airport is designed and laid out from the air.

It's huge, designed to be the Brazilian gateway, Varig's hub. Than Guarulhos/GRU opened in the 1980's, and as in all the other fields, Rio lost yet another battle to São Paulo.

Not near that tragic, but it's kinda like Montreal/Mirabel, destroyed by the rise of Toronto.

But worldwide, Rio is better than São Paulo, hosts the best events and receives more foreign tourists than São Paulo. (Neutral position: I'm not from Rio and neither I've lived in Rio

In terms of profitability, an important point for the administration of any airport in the world, Tom Jobim also shows a more attractive investment option than Guarulhos.

"Better". In which sense? GRU still handles much more international passengers than GIG. And it's not an event or number of foreign tourists that makes any city "better" than other.

Aha... It makes sense then. I hope Delta could send a B777 over to GIG so that it can have expanded capacity.

Indeed it is. I only wonder, though, if its capacity can be sustained, especially that it will host to the Olympics next year... I recall that Santos Dumont is the other big airport in Rio, yet it caters mostly to domestic flights. Perhaps a third airport may be needed to boost Rio's air operations?

This is not the project in place right now. This is what is being bult for the 2016 Olympic Games: https://www.facebook.com/RIOgaleao/v...type=2&theater

They're basically renovating the two terminals and adding a concourse to T2.
