Russian GP could be a reality in 2014

The Russian GP could become reality in 2014 according to reports in the Russian business newspaper Vedomosti.

Bernie Ecclestone expressed an interest in holding a round of the championship in Russia earlier this year, along with New York and Rome.

Three venues in Russia are keen to host a race, however, the city of Sochi, near the black sea opposite the coast of Turkey, is favourite.

The city is also set to host the 2014 Winter Olympics.

Yuri Reliyan, Deputy regional development minister, said construction of a track in Sochi would begin as soon as Ecclestone can "guarantee that the race will definitely take place, and the circuit will not be abandoned in the future.

"[Ecclestone] suggests holding the first grand prix in autumn 2014," Reilyan confirmed.

The report also mentioned that veteran F1 track designer, Hermann Tilke, had already been contacted with regards to designing the circuit.

The Mountain Carousel sports and holiday compex is a world-class Olympic facility in Sochi, the capital of the 2014 Winter Olympics. Once all the construction work has been finished, the Mountain Carousel will be one of the largest ski resorts in Krasnaya Polyana and will include infrastructure needed to host the 2014 Olympics.





Total length of the resort’s ski runs following the completion of construction work: 70 kilometres.

Total capacity of the complex: 12,000.

Facilities for skiers include ski lift terminals at heights of 540, 960, 1,450 and 2,200 metres above sea level. The stations will be interconnected by 28 lines of overhead ropeways consisting variously of cable cars, chair lifts and platter pulls. The pistes are to be fitted with snow machines to make it possible to extend the skiing season. As per the project, six pistes will be laid out with a green rating (i.e. for beginners), eight with a blue (i.e. easy) rating, 16 with a red (i.e. intermediate) rating and six with a black (i.e. expert) rating.

An Olympic media village will also be put up at heights of 540 and 960 metres, to include hotels of three-star category and upwards with a combined figure of over 2,150 rooms totalling over 100,000 square meters of floor space and on-site facilities: a shopping-cum-entertainment and a sports centre, a water park, tennis courts, restaurants, offices, car parks, a clinic, administrative buildings, traffic control centres and so on.

Media village (540 meters)

While the 2014 Winter Olympics are under way, over 2,000 journalists will be working here covering the progress of events. The media village provides all the facilities necessary for a comfortable stay, work and relaxation, including restaurants, a retail-cum-entertainment and a sports centre, a clinic, a car park and so on. The mainstay of the accommodation is hotels of three-star standard and above.

The media village complex at a height of 960 metres provides its guests with the opportunity to work hard and play hard on the slopes of Aigba ridge, surrounded by virgin forest. The design of the buildings making up the complex is intended to blend them perfectly into the landscape. The combination of a superb natural setting and picturesque landscapes with modern design and construction technology makes the media village at the Mountain Carousel a unique project.

The architecture of the complex



The total stock of rooms in the hotels measures 100,000 square meters and is housed in three to four storey buildings. The dimensions and internal layout of the rooms in the various categories correspond to current standards in the European hospitality industry. Thanks to the varying number of storeys and the location of the buildings, all the hotel guests have a picturesque view of the mountain slopes.




The multi-level flats of 200 square meters and above in size all have their own garages and gardens. The blocks of serviced apartments are designed as three and four storey buildings, each one with its own car park.




Modern, comfortable chalets of various types of 200 to 800 square meters in size are located on the mountain slopes at heights of 540 to 960 meters. The chalet buildings are designed in such a way that extensive use is to be made in their construction of naturally produced materials, including wood. Each chalet has its own garage or outside parking space. Some of the types of houses, located at a height of 960 meters, will have private access to the pistes
