WARSAW | Museum Of Modern Art

Quote:
The future seat of the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw will be erected in front of the Palace of Culture and Science.

The building is designed by the Swiss architect Christian Kerez, professor at the Federal Technical Institute in Zurich.

Christian Kerez's entry won the architectural competition. Its results were announced on 18th of February 2007.

The building's gross floor area is approx. 35.000 square meters.

The construction is due to begin by summer 2012. Planned opening date is autumn 2015.

The city of Warsaw ordered the architect to include a complete theatre for the TR Warszawa theatre into the building.

The final concept of the entire building was accepted in December 2009, and the project was officially presented on the 17th of June 2010.

The initial building cost was approx. 270 million zlotys. It is being updated at the moment.

The City of Warsaw pays for the construction of the Museum building.

The project supervisor is the Capital City Development Authority (SZRM).

Christian Kerez's local partner is the Estudio Lamela Polska Sp. z o.o.

Awesome. Some people have been critical of this project, calling it "ugly". I think it'll be great.

I still don't have any opinion regarding this museum. The entire complex looks too heavy and out of scale in this render. I expected more of a building designed for that purpose.

The inside is fantastic, but the outside... It's just a huge concrete box!

and that whats makes it quite unique in Poland since we have no Brutalist or at least Brutalist-like buildings in this scale.
