Nod for Information Technology Investment Region in Andhra Pradesh
http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/...w/16311087.cms
HYDERABAD: More than two-and-a-half years after it was mooted, the Centre finally gave "in principle" approval to the Andhra Pradesh government's proposal for setting up an Information Technology Investment Region (ITIR) around the city, giving a much-needed boost to the state's efforts to attract fresh investments into the industry. The ITIR would be developed in an area of 202 sq km (50,000 acres) in two phases over a period of 25 years. The ITIR is aimed at attracting an investment of Rs 2.19 lakh crore in the IT\ITES sectors and create direct employment for 15 lakh youths, according to state Information Technology Minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah. "ITIR is a combination of production units, public utilities, logistic, environment protection mechanism, residential areas and administrative services. ITIRs would include Special Economic Zones (SEZs), Industrial Parks, Free Trade Zones, Warehousing zones, Export-Oriented Units, growth centres, existing settlements/industries and estates/services," the Minister told newsmen here this afternoon after receiving a communication from the Centre. While neighbouring states Odisha and Karnataka too competed for the ITIR, AP was the first to secure in principle approval from the Centre. The ITIR is expected to boost IT exports from AP from Rs 50,000 crore to Rs 2.35 lakh crore while the electronic hardware manufacturing sector is expected to grow from the current level of Rs 6,000 crore to Rs 80,000 crore, according to the minister. "Direct employment will grow five times from the current three lakh to 15 lakh while indirect employment will be in the order of 50 lakh. Built-up space will rise from the present 40 million sqft to 130 million sqft," Lakshmaiah said. |

BANGALORE, JUNE 5: The Karnataka Government’s proposal for setting up an Information Technology Investment Region (ITIR) is awaiting the Union Cabinet approval. According to Mr M.N. Vidya Shankar, Karnataka Secretary for Commerce and Industry, the state is very close to getting a nod for the proposed region that would house IT and biotech companies. Tender for the first phase will commence once the Cabinet gives its approval. The project is initiated jointly by the Centre and the state wherein the Centre will take care of connectivity needs by the way of highways and BIAL expansion in the form of a second runway. Water, power connectivity The state on its part will develop the layout by offering water and power connectivity. The State Government has proposed to lay 60 kilometres of water pipeline to supply recycled water. For power requirements, six sub-stations and 65 km of transmission lines have been proposed to be set up at a cost of Rs 281 crore. Mr Shankar said that the ITIR will come up 44 km from Bangalore and 14 km from BIAL. To make it accessible, a proposal to extend Bangalore Metro Rail is under consideration. ITIR project For the development of ITIR, the Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) had announced that it will acquire 2,072 acres for the first phase of this project. The project is to be completed in two phases and the estimated investment is around Rs 90,000 crore. Consulting firm Deloitte has sent a detailed project report to the Centre highlighting the project requirements. A majority of future investment activities and growth lay in growing the ecosystem of IT parks, R&D centres, residential townships and academic institutions like IIIT. The project, when completed, would generate about 1.1 million direct and2.7 million indirect jobs for the 1.2 million people. |

IT investment region to start soon
http://www.business-standard.com/ind...t-soon/489902/
Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar on Wednesday said the work on establishment of the Information Technology Investment Region (ITIR) would commence before the state goes for the assembly polls early next year. “The work on ITIR project will commence before the next assembly elections,” he told reporters here after inaugurating BangaloreIT.Biz 2012 here. Shettar said the state government has started preliminary notification for acquiring land for setting up the ITIR in outskirts of the city. The project would be implemented with Central assistance and would come up near Devanahalli, he added. Karnataka contributes about 40 per cent of the IT exports of the country and the state has recorded IT exports of over Rs 1.35 lakh crore during the financial year 2011-12, Shettar said. Of the 2.5 million software professionals employed in the country, over 800,000 are employed in Bangalore alone, he said, adding the contribution of IT to Karnataka’s GDP is over 20 per cent. |

CCEA may take up clearance of Bangalore IT region tomorrow
NEW DELHI: The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs ( CCEA) is expected to take a decision tomorrow on the setting up an IT investment region in Bangalore to promote electronic hardware manufacturing.
"The matter is listed for the CCEA's meeting slated for tomorrow," said a source. The Karnataka government will provide land for the Information Technology Investment Region (ITIR). It will also ensure direct access to the region through national and state highways. The project is expected to attract Rs 1.6 lakh crore of investments and generate about 4 million jobs - direct and indirect employment to 1.2 million and 2.8 million people respectively by 2032, the source added. The project, which was mooted by the Department of Electronics and Information Technology in 2008, will be implemented with the assistance of the Centre. Karnataka contributes about 40 per cent of the IT exports of the country and the state has recorded IT exports of over Rs 1.35 lakh crore during the financial year 2011-12. Out of the 25 lakh software professionals employed in the country, over 8 lakh are in Bangalore alone, he said, adding that the contribution of IT to Karnataka's GDP is over 20 per cent. http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/...w/20211247.cms http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000...601915360.html |
