Thailand now third-biggest 7-Eleven site

Thailand has become the world's third largest operator of 7-Eleven convenience stores, beating Taiwan for the first time.

Suvit Kingkaeo, senior deputy managing director of CP All Plc, the local operator of 7-Eleven, said there were about 5,500 outlets in Thailand.

Taiwan ranked third globally last year with 4,000 stores. Japan tops the list with 12,000 and the US has over 6,000.

CP All still sees potential in the convenience store segment, which it expects to grow by 10% in the first half of the year, said Mr Suvit.

''We will keep up our expansion with an additional 450 to 500 outlets to be added each year,'' he said.

''We expect the number of total stores will reach 7,000 within 2012, ranking No. 2 to replace the US.''

Sales of CP All in the first half are expected to grow by 10% despite recent political unrest. The company said it would add 500 new outlets this year, half of which have already been opened.

Mr Suvit said 7-Eleven's performance was slightly affected by the May unrest. Five stores were torched during the May 19 riots and are still closed for renovations. However, sales at outlets in downtown Bangkok increased by 20% as people shopped closer to home when the curfew was imposed.

He said he was still optimistic about the outlook for Thai retailing this year. The overall business will grow by 10% because consumer confidence and spending have improved rapidly in the past month. Moreover, upcountry customers are now earning better incomes due to the rising price of farm products, encouraging them to spend more.

''If there are no further political problems during the rest of this year, I'm confident that the shopping momentum will continue to increase,'' he said.

Both local and foreign retail chains are continuing with their expansion plans. The modern trade segment is worth about 400 billion baht, of which convenience stores account for 20%.

In Australia and in many other countries, 7-11 pricing is a lot more expensive than average retailers.

Well, the steam buns at 7-11 is not as good as the local made version though ... the local made steam bun have to be sold by the end of the day they have been made so it is quite fresh taste but the steam buns + Dimsum at 7-11 (made by CP) have to get extended shelf life by continuous wsteaming so teaming have rendered the bread texture of steam bun to be soaked up instead of dry bread ...

AMPM business failed in 2005-2006. All shop had gone.

And more, All Jiffy shop has been replaced by 7-11.

พอได้แล้วมั่งครับ ไอ้เซเว่น ควรจะชะลอหรือหยุดได้แล้วเซเว่นเหตุผลคือเบื่อยี่ห้อนี้แล้ว อยากได้ family mart มั่งหรือ บริษัทค้าปลีกซุปเปอร์มาร์เก็ตแบบเดียวกับเซนเว่นหรือfamily mart แต่เป็นบริษัทของคนไทย


อย่าให้เซนเว่นมันผูกขาดควรให้ซูเปอร์มาร์เก็ตยี่ห้ออื่นได้เกิดมั่ง ชีวิตนี้จะได้เห็นแต่เซเว่นเต็มเมืองรึไงมีใครเห็นด้วยกับผมไหม

ผมขอเสนอให้มีการชะลอหรือ หยุดการขยายสาขาเซเว่น ซะเพื่อให้ 108 shop และ family mart แบ่ง การตลาดซุเปอร์มาร์เก็ตได้มากขึ้น มีความหลากหลายขึ้น ลดการผูกขาด

ผมว่ามีแต่เซเว่นอย่างเดียวมันผิดปกตินะครับ(ผู้ที่มีความรู้ทางการเมืองจะมีความรู้สึกแบบนี้) เซเว่นควรจะรู้จักคําว่าพอแล้วให้โอกาสบริษัทที่ทําซุปเปอร์มาร์เก็ตอื่นได้ส่วนแบ่งทางตลาดมากขึ้นรัฐบาลเองก็น่าจะมองนะครับ

นายธวัชชัยกล่าวว่า ปัญหาการเมืองในขณะนี้ ถือเป็นปัญหาระยะสั้น และส่งผลกระทบต่อธุรกิจเพียงเล็กน้อยเท่านั้น เนื่องจากมีสาขาที่อยู่ใกล้พื้นที่ชุมนุมเพียง 1 สาขา คือ สาขาถนนข้าวสาร โดยผลประกอบการในไตรมาสแรกที่ผ่านมา มียอดขายเติบโต 18% เทียบช่วงเดียวกันของปีก่อน พร้อมตั้งเป้าหมายยอดขายปีนี้ เติบโตไม่ต่ำกว่า 12% จากปีที่ผ่านมา มียอดขายกว่า 8,500 ล้านบาท

ส่วนกลยุทธ์การทำตลาดยังจะมุ่งขยายไลน์สินค้ากลุ่มอาหารมากขึ้น จากปัจจุบันสร้างรายได้เป็นสัดส่วน 27% วางเป้าหมายเพิ่มเป็น 60-70% ภายใน 3 ปีข้างหน้า เพื่อรองรับพฤติกรรมการบริโภคของคนรุ่นใหม่ ที่มีวิถีชีวิตเร่งรีบและนิยมบริโภคสะดวกในร้านคอนวีเนียนสโตร์ นอกเหนือกจากอาหารประเภทแช่แข็ง แช่เย็นแล้ว แฟมิลี่มาร์ทอยู่ระหว่างพัฒนา "เบนโตะ" หรือข้าวกล่องญี่ปุ่น เพื่อเป็นจุดขายแตกต่างจากคู่แข่งในตลาดด้วย

ล่าสุด บริษัท ได้ร่วมพันธมิตรธุรกิจกับบริษัท ไทยยามาซากิ จำกัด ผู้บริหารร้านขนมปังยามาซากิ เปิดร้านขนมปังยามาซากิ เอ็กซ์เพรส ภายในร้านแฟมิลี่มาร์ท สาขาอาคารวาณิช ขนาดพื้นที่ 48 ตร.ม. เป็นสาขาแรกในการทดลองตลาด

If you think food, try to stay away from 7-11s. McDonalds is probably a healthier alternative compared to them.

agree, the McDo salads and tiny plain burgers without sauce is probably OK ....but 7-11s are everywhere so if its 4 AM and your stumbling around, then no choice dude ....its all in the word "covenience"

also, 7-11s actually sometimes have fruit (like apple slices in a plastic bag)
