One of the best modern brutalist buildings imo is Index Dubai, is a beast, damn impressive, looks like an evil headquarter but with some class though.

The Mechanic Theatre in Baltimore is now under demolition
You'd think we would have learned from the Prentice Hospital.

LISBON, Portugal telecom
year: 1977

Brutalism or not?... All the facade was made in raw concrete. Older people told me that it was painted in orange only a few years later. I didn't find old photos...

Why are there some many brutalist buildings being destructed nowadays?

They're in their 'mid-life crisis.'

Too new to be historic, but too old to be modern. Thus most people in his era don't see their value.

Portugal, Vila Nova de Foz Coa, Coa Museum
year: 2008
The Museum of the Coa was built with the goal to promote and contextualize the archaeological findings of the Coa valley. The museum looks like a monolith that simulates a "huge rock" shale in concrete, with windows in cracks, semi-buried and eight feet high on the slope overlooking the Douro valley.

They did a great job making the concrete look like stone. They look like slabs straight from a quarry.

The empty plot here has since been built on

El Makam Chahid (Martyrs' Memorial), Algiers, Algeria (1982). Iconic concrete monument commemorating the Algerian war for independence.

And Happy New Year to all the fans of the brutalist architecture!

Maybe you will find this article interesting...

Start the Year the Right Way With 18 Illustrations of Architecture Classics

To celebrate the start of 2015, Xinran Ma, a New York-based architectural designer and illustrator, has created this brutalist-inspired greetings card. Based on his work illustrating over 50 of the classic projects of modernist and brutalist architecture, this card features pieces of these recognizable buildings, remixed and adapted to create a typeface.
