People who want to demolish that building instead of renovating it are just as short-sighted as the 1960s developers they claim to criticize. Have they not learned from Park Hill?

I can and do appreciate some examples of brutalism but this is not a fine example. It represents one of the lowest failed attempts of the style and has little to no architectural merit.

If you want to see brutalism done right, pretty much every post on page 119 is a great example. I for one will not miss Robin Hood Gardens, which would be better categorised as slum dwellings than a brutalist icon.

Americans care about their past, but for short term gain they ignore it and tear down everything that matters... This is the time to take a stand, to reverse the tide, so that we won't all end up in a uniform world of steel and glass boxes.

I disagree. The facade must be cleaned and its windows replaced. Basically, a full do-over while retaining the original architecture.

Also with a re-do of the surrounding landscaping and removal of the wall around the site.

Sorry if this has already been posted (I've only gone through about 35 pages of this thread so far..). St. John's Abbey in the small town of Collegeville, Minnesota, USA. Marcel Breuer added several brutalist buildings to the campus.

Later, other buildings were added by different architects. Here's one by Rafferty, Rafferty, Tollefson:

The student dormitory Goce Delchev in Skopje. It's already being presented here, but this is an interesting perspective.

I love how the chairs match the architecture.

The chairs, like the church, look uncomfortable

Maybe that was the point of the architect - people to feel uncomfortable while they listen the preaching of the priest Probably that feeling enhanced their religious experience.

The architecture was meant to look modern and artistic. People need to understand this when analyzing architecture from that era.

Something like this would not fit in that building:
