Tvsngur sound sculpture in Seyisfjrur, Iceland

Quote:
Nestled on a mountainside overlooking a fjord, the Icelandic ‘Tvsngur’ is a concrete sculpture for sound, open for anyone to visit. Five domes combine to form a network of vaults. Each is designed to amplify a resonance distinct from the other, so the overall space echoes the Icelandic musical tradition of five-tone harmony.

Sorry for being a little bit OT, but I thought that maybe some of you could be intrested in this article:

Quote:
When concrete buildings drive people mad
By Camila Ruz & Maisie Smith-Walters
BBC News Magazine

Post-war architecture is loved by some and loathed by many. A series of battles is taking place across the UK over whether to preserve certain concrete buildings. Which ones have divided opinion the most?
Incidentally, I would like to point out that, as far as my understanding of the subject goes, by collecting almost any architectural work where bton brut is predominant, in this thread we are dealing with brutalism in somewhat the widest possible sense. Instead the article I'm linking deals with brutalism in a stricter sense, the one of architectural seriousness, I dare say severity, maybe closer to the original meaning in Banham's The New Brutalism. Imho such a distinction is still necessary: worn out ripped jeans are not the same thing as brand new ripped jeans.

The main issue in most cases is the almost non-existent maintenance. If a building looks like a slum, of course most people won't like it. And then, because people don't like it, even less money is put into maintenance, which means even fewer people like it, so it gets more run down, and so on, and so on. There's a reason architects, designers, and other artsy people like these buildings more than "the public", because they've been trained to see beneath the grime. The average person doesn't care about architecture, so they just see the grime.
