Looks good, but I like more the contrast of the old Gothic monument and the modern building behind it.

Municipal Theatre, Sankt Gallen, Switzerland

edit: I found out there are proposals to demolish the Birmingham Library. That is a complete outrage and treason against architectural history... such a building needs landmarking and renovation, it shouldn't be torn down just because it's not 'fresh'.
One day...one day people will realize that superficial details in the cladding aren't the sole reason for preserving a building. Many buildings, like that one, use light and structure to leave an impression. I'll bet in 30 more years people will be landmarking mid-20th century modernist buildings left and right because they've grown old enough for objective judgement...that is, if they don't manage to savagely tear them all down to begin with.

It's shameful if they do that... I think that demolishing such architecture is a huge loss for the world.

I love that library. Very inticate, detailed structure that still looks contemporary.

Although it doesn't look like it's clad in concrete, the TransAmerica Pyramid has some brutalist characteristics, like the windows and the base.

Palace of the Republic, Berlin, Germany.
Mix of brutalism and International Style.

This is a good case study for why such buildings should not be demolished. This building, despite being an architectural landmark and piece of history for the East Germans, was torn down in 2008 despite all the protests. Shameful.

My main problem with it is that the cubes are too small, making it look like a favela.

I think it looks far better close up than far away.
