Empire Plaza, a complex in Albany, NY, features some fine Brutalist buildings (although clad with a white stone, not concrete)

It also has some nice International-Style Towers to complement them

Brutalism comes from the term "Rough Concrete", BUT it is important to realize that that does not mean that any concrete building is therefor Brutalist. Brutalism is really about large concrete buildings (usually public buildings) with a very heavy, aggressive presence, usually inspired by or alluding to geologic formations, such as rocks and canyons. It is a type of modernist style, sitting between Mid Century and Tech MOdern, so picks up traces of both, but is not either. Many of these buildings are quite beautiful, and some of the really gorgeous ones ARE beautiful, but many of the buildings I see posted are not what I would call brutalist.

That's not really brutalism though, it's a bit more than just raw concrete for building to be called as such. It might be even some other material like brick.

I find this the most horrible form of architectural design. The buildings look depressing, like from a sad post war era. South African cities are brutal as they are scarred with these buildings, which make them truly sad.

I think they look cool, with amazing underrated character

@ Iluminat I see a lot of brutalist aspects, not just the concrete use.
