The update of this picture also shows how the powers in this world change towards China. Moscow Tower, the only European 600+ project (which I was looking froward to) and Chicago spire, the only US 600+ project, are both cancelled. China was the winner of the GFC, and Europe is even suffering a new crisis, call it EFC, choose whether the "E" should stand for Europe or for Euro. Anyway, the architecture in China is trend-setting, the shapes are getting more and more organic and visionary, see Shanghai tower or Guangzhou TV tower, for example, or my personal favourite: CCTV headquarters (of course it is not in your diagram because it is not a Supertall). It is interesting to see that although these buildings are/will be iconic for the new power of China they are still designed by architects from the Nederland and US, so maybe they are also a symbol for the symbiosis of East and West (instead of rivalry).

PS: I think your regularly updated diagram could as well be sticky here.

mibome-good post. i agree what you say. china is doing incredible atm. not only design but sheer numbers of supertalls.they are leading the way. also not to forget UAE.
North america only have now 4 with 1 UC.(2 being destroyed by terrorists)
but 600m or 2000ft seems to be about the limit these days for new megatalls. the mighty Burj Khalifa is 200m clear of nearest rival. and this maybe the case for a decade atleast?
if i had to add 300m+, i think theres another 70 UC?,plus the 40 of so that are existing
thats 110 + the 35 i have over 400m, thats 150 supertalls (300m)+???
just think 20 years ago there were only a handful.

CN Tower is there... in the center, between the WTC's of NYC and Shanghai.

The name change occurred last summer:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Willis_Tower

Some people, however, refuse to stop calling it the Sears Tower.

It seems you count prep, so you should add the Dynamix Balwas Tower at 1805+ft. in Bombay.

You can also add World One in Mumbai which is under prep from the one picture shown.
For Korea you can add: Seoul Lite, Lotte Millenium Tower, and Solomon World Business Center. Also: Chow Tai Fook international Center in Tianjin seems to under prep along with the R&F Tower. Kingkey International Finnance Center has also increased its height by 3 meters.

Sorry, I can't get links, but I'm talking about the Lotte Millenium Tower in Seoul which is 1830ft. and the Chow Tai Fook Center in Tianjin. It's the same height as the one in Guangzhou. I think the one's you are thinking of are the East Tower in Guangzhou and the Lotte Town Super Tower in Busan. Again, Sorry that I can't get the links.
