Just because something isn't beautiful, It doesn't mean its ugly.

Big impact tower with its black facade..
I don't normally like boxes but i tink this one is great with the black and the sleekness! 8.5/10

I think this design is very dated. It looks like the top part of the Sears tower. Very 1960's/early 1970's. 5/10

It's slender and gives the impression of a supertall, which is great, but I wish it had been some other color than black....8/10

"As well as violating the ruling of new high-rises not exceeding the height of the nearby United Nations Secretariat."
There were no such rules to be violated and still aren't. There was a loose "gentleman's agreement" in the decades after the Secretariat was built that developers of adjacent sites should not build taller, just as existed in Philadelphia concerning the statue atop city hall. But in both cases no zoning ordinances were ever crafted for a height restriction. Thus Trump developed the site "as of right". Theoretically this means he could have built as tall a tower as he wished. The site is very small though so he built as tall a tower as was practical and profitable. The UN had no problem with it nor did the city. Some wealthy condo owners in the area raised a big stink however because Trump's tower blocked many of their views of the Chrysler Building. They of course used this archaic "gentleman's agreement"as an excuse to try and save their precious vista. They lost. Case closed. |

A straight black box. Looks okay nice shade. Just don't like simple plain buildings so much. |
