Cambodia's King, PM Make First Trip On Bus To Far Eastern Province

PHNOM PENH, Jan 10 (Bernama) -- Cambodia's King Norodom Sihamoni, Prime Minister Hun Sen and other cabinet members are making their first trip together on a bus to far eastern province of Mondulkiri near Vietnam border, Xinhua news agency reported.

Sry Thammarong, minister attached to the prime minister, said on Tuesday that Prime Minister Hun Sen is accompanying King Norodom Sihamoni and are joined by other cabinet members in a visit to Mondulkiri province, some 520 km east of Phnom Penh.

He said the two-day trip"is intended to see the real lives of people living in remote provinces and to inspect the rural development especially infrastructure as well as distributing some gifts to villagers".

The minister added that"it is the first time for the king and the prime minister to make such a joint road trip to remote areas".

Prime Minister Hun Sen suggested several years ago that once the national road from Phnom Penh to Mondulkiri province is completely built, he might invite his majesty the king to make a joint trip.

Due to several decades of civil war, many parts of the country, especially the communication and transportation lines, have been destroyed.

Mondulkiri province was originally accessed from Vietnamese side, but is now accessible from the Cambodian side. It is being connected to other eastern provinces such as Rattanakiri province.

Sihanmoni came to throne in 2004 following his father Norodom Sihanouk's abdication.

Have you guys learned that the king had already made a public statement about his final wishes and what to do to his and his wife bodies after he dies? He did it a couple of weeks ago on TVK. I guess he knows that he might not be with his people, Cambodians, for any longer soon if not very soon. His wishes were so simple if I remember correctly. It has three points or so only. I am checking youtube out to see if I can find it somewhere.

Yeah something like that. He does not want to have a big state funeral for himself. I guess he wants to save state money. Good for him. He is really everything in the history of Cambodia (the good and the bad the same time). But, he'll be missed for sure by many - the loves and the hates altogether.

so complicated to think back about bitter history. According to history book, i can say: since Angkor Era fail, Cambodia meet only obstacle include with internal and external conflict. Cambodia almost disappeared from the world map. and now we start to get up and do jogging not even walk or run.

Sisowath Monivong(Khmer: ព្រះបាទ ស៊ីសុវតិ្ថ មុនីវង្ស) was the king of Cambodia from 1927 until his death in 24 April, 1941.

Sisowath Monivong (Khmer: ព្រះបាទ ស៊ីសុវតិ្ថ មុនីវង្ស - Thai: พระบาทสมเด็จพระสีสุวัตถิ์ มุนีวงศ์)
has reigned from 9 August 1927 until his demise on 24 April 2941. He used to have a Thai concubine named Miss Phaen Ruengnont and appointed her as Chao Chom Srivasti Amphaibongse (เจ้าจอมสีสุวัตถิ์ อำไพพงศ์) until the interview with her father has outraged King Sisowath Monivong to the point that he has to removed Chao Chom Srivasti Amphaibongse from the position of a concubine and sent her back to Thailand.

BTW, King Sisowath Monivong loved Thai drama since the day he was in Thailand so he has modified some of Thai drama such as Krai Thong to play in Cambodia - as mentioned by MR Kukrit during his visit of Cambodia in 1953.

Some of Cambodian/khmer Kings back then also educated and lived in Bangkok as well, and adopted a lot Thai culture into Cambodia.

After the death of King Minovong, King Sihanouk(Khmer: នរោត្តម សីហនុ) was crowned as king of Cambodia on 25 April, 1941.
