PART IX
Montmartre

Montmartre is a hill (the butte Montmartre) which is 130 metres high, giving its name to the surrounding district, in the north of the city. Montmartre is primarily known for the white-domed Basilica of the Sacré Cœur on its summit, from which one gets fantastic views across the city unless you went on the day that I did; and as a nightclub district. The other, older, church on the hill is Saint Pierre de Montmartre, which claims to be the location at which the Jesuit order of priests was founded. Many artists had studios or worked around the community of Montmartre such as Salvador Dalí (of which I visited), Amedeo Modigliani, Claude Monet, Pablo Picasso and Vincent van Gogh.

Hello there and excuse me for invading in your forum! My name is Ektoras (Hector) . My country is Cyprus (or Republic of Cyprus, in french Chypre) and I am a student in Cyprus university of technology which is based in Limassol city, the second largest city of Cyprus. I am having some thoughts of visiting the universite de Franche-Comte for Erasmus (student's exchange programme) and I have no idea what to search for, because all of the results are in French, and my French language skills are extremely poor! I am desperate, and i need to find some info about this place as soon as possible. I would appreciate if you could help me! Thanks a lot and I am looking forward for your comments.

If you would like to visit my country's and my city's thread in Skyscrapercity, please visit : http://www.skyscrapercity.com/forumdisplay.php?f=683 My city is Limassol. (Btw Cypru's capital is Nicosia)

Hi, thanks for taking the time to post this. It raises some very good questions and I suggest you start a thread about this to attract ideas and answers from many more forum members as this, unfortunately, isn't the right thread.

I have however been to Cyprus, twice, and loved it both times - visiting Pafos, Limassol, Polis, Colossi Castle, Nicosia and the Troodos Mountains.

I hate Place du Tertre, it is a real tourist trap full of outdated stereotype.

I can imagine, it was heaving with tourists. Personally, I was glad to get out of there. Otherwise, Montmartre is a lovely area of the city.

Yes, that's right! Best way to see a city in my opinion. Covers more ground than on foot that's for sure.

I can understand why as they're not the best of trains. One of the ones I was on on Line 1 came to a halt very suddenly 3 times, leading to a few people falling over in the aisle. They are quite vintage though and look nicer than some of the more modern ones.
