I can't figure out why they came up with the PRR, but it will help commerce in parts of Rangareddy district so it's probably a good idea.

Master Plan promises 10 new flyovers
Aug 25 2010

Hyderabad, Aug. 24: Ten new flyovers, 13 bridges, seven road-under-bridges and multi-parking facilities have been proposed in the City Master Plan-2031 to decongest traffic in the city.

The Master Plan for the core area of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation was released by the Chief Minister on Tuesday. It will be available online from August 26.

The municipal administration minister, Mr Aanam Ramanarayana Reddy, said the Master Plan would encourage decongestion of the old areas of the city.

The minister added that the area up to nine metres from Hussainsagar was declared a ‘Green Zone.’

Also, for the first time, MS Maktha has found a place in the Master Plan and has been categorised as a residential area.

Also, the growth corridor along the Outer Ring Road will be operational from November this year. This decision was taken at the high-level meeting held by the Chief Minister.

The growth corridor extends one kilometre on either side of the ORR and the government wants to develop it as a commercial hub. There are, however, certain restrictions particularly in terms of allowing traffic directly on to the ORR’s service roads.

Mr Rosaiah told the officials that he would inspect the ORR works on August 29. The CM also directed them to complete the works on the Hitec City flyover by September 30.

Meanwhile, the officials said the Kukatpally RoB will not be complete till March 2011.

Thumbs down No Way !

Gosh ! u'v got 2 b kidding!

Only 10 Flyovers and a few bridges for a city of the size of Hyd. in the next 21 years ...
That's definitely not a Master Plan 4 sure..but rather a 'Disaster Plan'

The whole focus should be on MRTS development apart from flyovers n bridges..
Say at least 250 Kms. of Metro Network by 2031..

There is a list of junctions where flyovers are being planned in sakshi article:
1. Nayapul Junction
2. IS Sadan crossing
3. Begam bazaar chatri
4. RTC crossroads
5. Barkatpura
6. Kachiguda
7. Bahadurpura
8. Red hills to nampally
9. Ramkoti junction
10. Koti womens college

I get a feeling this master plan is only for Hyderabad core area.

Otherwise if they were to build a flyover in hyd, they should first consider them at the following places:
1. Uppal ring road junction
2. LB Nagar - NH9 Junction
3. Balanagar chowrastha
4. Ameerpet (I don't how and where they can build a flyover at Ameerpet Maithrivanam junction, as it will have 2 metro lines passing through it. But somehow they have to come up with a solution for the chaos there).

Yes, HMDA released the finalised master plan for "core" area (erstwhile MCH zones). The recently added suburbs are getting a draft plan soon.

ROB at hitech railway station started years before this one at hitech-city junction.
It just saddens me when railways every project in which they are involved (read Begumpet flyover, where the portion over railway tracks was delayed forever and many more examples.....)

Hitec City flyover to open on Oct. 2

Staff Reporter

700-metre-long facility taken up at a cost of Rs. 22 crore

Work on the flyover almost complete, but for bitumen job

First project in State to be illuminated by energy-saving solar lights

HYDERABAD: Set to open for traffic on October 2, the Hitec City flyover taken up by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) acquires the distinction of being the first such facility in the State to be illuminated by energy-saving solar light concept.

According to HMDA officials, the work on the flyover was almost complete, but for bitumen job and right weather condition was being awaited to take care of it. “The superstructure has been readied and everything else is in place. We are waiting for rains to provide a breather and be able to complete the bitumen work,” an official said. The carpeting work could take about three days or so. The 700-metre-long facility taken up at a cost of Rs. 22 crore comes on 17 piers and 16 spans. In the making for sometime and having skipped a few deadlines due to various reasons, it was taken up to avoid traffic conflicts at the intersection in front of the Cyber Towers.

The street-lighting on the flyover incorporates energy-saving concepts and comes in the form of solar lamps. A total of 59 lamps would brighten up the facility with 49 of them on the deck and five each installed on the two obligatory spans. This gets described as the first such flyover in the State to have been entirely provided with illumination using solar energy that comes at a cost of Rs.38.72 lakh. “The initial cost could be a bit more in installing this energy saving concept but it surely gets recovered in time,” adds the HMDA official.

The flyover coming into usage on October 2 would to a large extent offer solution to the traffic problems along the stretch which gets entangled at the intersection. Apart from the flyover, the project has an underpass planned here but the same was kept aside to provide right alignment with the proposed Metro Rail.

Road under bridge at Fatehnagar

The South Central Railway (SCR) has taken up the construction of a large four-lane road under bridge (RUB) between Fatehnagar and Nature Cure Hospital stations in the city using the modern ‘Box Pushing Technique’, enabling the work to progress without stopping the trains.

Once completed, the RUB would provide a direct connectivity between Begumpet and Balanagar area for the convenience of road users.

The work for the railway portion of the bridge is expected to be completed by February 2011 at a cost of about Rs 13.50 crore.

The bridge consists of two vents to accommodate two lane roads each with footpath.

The length of the vent is 29 meters with a width of 2.80 meters and a height of 6.69 meters.

Each vent will comprise three pre-cast RCC box segments using ready-mixed concrete.

These pre-cast segments are pushed across the railway line with the help of specially designed thrust bed and jacking equipments.

The jacks are operated hydraulically and controlled through centralized power pack and control panel.

The earth is excavated through an excavator and lifted from the bottom of the box to ground level with the help of specially made lifting cranes as there is a level difference of six meters between the box and the adjacent ground level. Care has been taken to remove the excavated earth and rock by means of tippers in the night to a dumping place outside the city limits.

The rock is removed by using mechanical means of chiseling/ rock splitter.

The total concrete being used is 2,100 cubic meters and the reinforced steel is 300 metric tonnes (MT). The weight of the six segments together will be 5,250 MTs with each segment weighing on an average 875 MTs.

The SCR Engineering Department have taken required safety precautions in the execution of the work so that no unsafe conditions prevail while pushing the box under running trains.

SP Road commuters can breathe easy now
Dec 27 2010

Dec. 26: After eight long years of getting stuck in traffic jams on the Sardar Patel Road, lakhs of motorists can finally hope for some smooth travelling once the corridor is widened.

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is all set to take over 1,000 square yards of private land at Kochar Apartments opposite Pantaloons for widening the SP Road. The narrow culvert at Kochar Apartments was the main bottleneck causing traffic jams on this corridor which is part of the all-important Inner Ring Road (IRR).

Sources said that the land compensation had been fixed at Rs 34,000 per square yard after negotiations with owners. The GHMC will pay Rs 3.41 crore for the land to be acquired.
Officials are confident that successful negotiations in this case will pave the way for acquisition of other long-pending private properties on the S.P. Road.

It may be mentioned that even after the closure of commercial flight operations at Begumpet Airport, traffic congestion on the SP Road continues even today.

Despite having four flyovers on this stretch vehicular traffic jams are a daily affair on this route.

Though a majority of properties were taken and the road widened up to 150-feet, the owners of some of the private properties approached the court against the land acquisition notices served by the municipal corporation. The GHMC chief city planner, Mr G.V. Raghu, confirmed to this correspondent that land acquisition at Kochar Apartments was a major achievement.

“Now, the owners of other private properties can be offered compensation at the same rate and we hope to remove the properties and widen the road,” he said. Land acquisitions still pending include the Kochar Apartments area, Jabbar Buildings, Iskcon and Mamaji Dhaba among others.

Now that ORR is making significant progress and most of it is expected to be operational by the end of 2012, the focus should shift to the following roads.

- Expand NH7 from Inner Ring Road (IRR) to ORR intersection on southside from 2 lanes to 4 lanes on each direction
- Expand NH7 from ORR intersection to Kothur from 2 lanes to 3 lanes on each side.
- Expand NH9 from IRR (LB Nagar) to ORR intersection (Peddaamberpet) from 2 lanes to 4 lanes on each side
- Expand NH9 from ORR intersection to Narketpalli from 2 lanes to 3 lanes on each side. By 2012, GMR will complete NH9 expansion to 4 lanes all the way to Vijayawada and Ramky will complete Medarmetla <to> Narketpalli road. So, traffic from Vijayawada and Guntur will increase significantly making the stretch between Narketpally <to> ORR a bottleneck.
- Expand NH9 to 4 lanes on both sides from Miyapur to ORR intersection.

- Of course, all remaining radial roads too

Impact fee may pay for road plan
Jan 10 2011

Jan. 9: After planning to collect toll tax from motorists on the Outer Ring Road, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority is now planning to levy an impact fee on buildings that will come up on either side of the radial roads.

The move is being made with a twin objective. First, the aim is to recover nearly Rs 400 crore that the HMDA is spending on development of radial roads, an amount it obtained as a loan from Japan International Cooperation Agency. Second, the amount will be used for maintenance of radial roads in future as HMDA is not sure who will maintain the radial roads once they are developed as a one-time widening-cum-improvement project.

Though as many as 33 radial roads were identified for development, the cash-starved Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority is unlikely to take up all of them.

It is likely to leave out over a dozen of the 33 radial roads, citing less traffic volume, where no immediate widening and development is required. Sources told this correspondent that officials have decided not to borrow or take further loans and confine works to 12-odd radial roads until the revenue position of the HMDA improves.

The formula is, “chew only the quantity you can swallow.” Radial roads were proposed mainly to connect various parts of the core city to the Outer Ring Road (ORR). These roads were identified based on traffic studies to increase connectivity to ORR from Inner Ring Road in the city.

A senior official in HMDA said 33 radial roads were divided into several categories depending upon the traffic flow. The traffic studies revealed that the present width of over a dozen roads is sufficient for the current and projected traffic volume for the next five to six years.

ROB at Hi-Tec City rly station to be ready by May
TNN, Jan 8, 2011, 02.38am IST
HYDERABAD: The rail over bridge (ROB) proposed from Hi-Tec City railway station to Kukatpally will be ready by May.

The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) has taken up the ROB at a cost of Rs 24 crore. While the road portion would be constructed by the metropolitan authority by March 2011, the portion on the railway tracks will be completed by the South Central Railway by May.

HMDA metropolitan commissioner Rajeshwar Tiwari who has inspected the ongoing works said the railways has given clearances and the super structure designs are likely to be cleared by it by this month.

The 910-metre ROB works began in March 2007 and were supposed to be completed by August 2008, but got delayed due to changes in drawings, objections raised by SCR, hitches in getting approvals and shifting of utilities like water pipelines.

The ROB starts from KPHB Phase IV (rear side), Kukatpally, to Cyber Towers and lands near Hi-Tec City railway station on the spinal road. It will ease congestion on the busy road and also reduce distance between Old Bombay Highway and New Bombay Highway, especially for those who want to reach Kukatpally from Mehdipatnam by 7 km.
