SA CRICKET
Amla tops CSA nominations
Johannesburg - Hashim Amla has set a record by being nominated in six different categories for the 2010 SA Cricket Awards Gala Dinner in association with Standard Bank, Castle and MTN to be held next Tuesday, July 20 at a glittering banquet at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg. This memorable evening is one of the highlights on the South African cricketing calendar and highlights outstanding performances across the board of professional cricket in both the international and domestic arenas. The SA Cricket Awards Gala Dinner is the culmination of CSA Day, a day set aside annually by CSA, to celebrate the achievements of the South African cricket family, both on and off the field during the past season. Amla’s achievement is not surprising considering the outstanding season he has had in Test cricket and the manner in which he has established himself as one of South Africa’s leading ODI players as well. He has been nominated in the following categories: SA Cricketer of the Year, SA Players’ Player of the Year, CSA Fans’ Cricketer of the Year, KFC “SO GOOD!” Award, CSA Test Cricketer of the Year and Standard Bank One-Day International Cricketer of the Year. Jacques Kallis has been nominated in four categories (SA Cricketer of the Year, CSA Test Cricketer of the Year, Standard Bank One-Day International Cricketer of the Year and Standard Bank International Pro20 Cricketer of the Year) and AB de Villiers in three categories (SA Cricketer of the Year, Standard Bank One-Day International Cricketer of the Year and Standard Bank International Pro20 Cricketer of the Year). Dale Steyn has received two nominations (SA Cricketer of the Year and CSA Test Cricketer of the Year). One of the highlights of the domestic season is that it gives cricketers uncapped at international level the chance to compete for awards against Proteas. In the domestic category, for instance, Herschelle Gibbs is a finalist for the MTN40 Cricketer of the Year along with Rusty Theron and Colin Ingram. Ingram has also been nominated for the domestic Standard Bank Pro20 Cricketer of the Year as well as the Domestic Players’ Player of the Year and the SA Cricketers’ Association Most Valuable Player award. In a first for the Awards, CSA is giving two lucky fans the opportunity to hand over the CSA Fans Cricketer of Year Award, a prize that will include a VIP Experience for the night along with three of their friends. The fans were randomly selected after they voted for their favourite cricketer on the CSA website, in a month long poll that saw thousands of fans participate. CSA Day starts with the SA Cricket Awards breakfast, in association with KFC, which is held to celebrate the stars of tomorrow, followed by the CSA Golf Invitational, which gives key stakeholders an opportunity to have a round of golf with the Proteas. The finalists for the major awards are: PROFESSIONAL AWARDS: DOMESTIC CSA Umpire of the Year: Johan Cloete, Marais Erasmus, Brian Jerling MTN40 Cricketer of the Year: Herschelle Gibbs, Colin Ingram, Rusty Theron Standard Bank Pro20 Cricketer of the Year: Robbie Frylinck, Colin Ingram, Morne van Wyk SuperSport Series Cricketer of the Year: Vernon Philander, Rilee Rossouw, Thami Tsolekile PROFESSIONAL AWARDS: SA TEAM Standard Bank International Pro20 Cricketer of the Year: AB de Villiers, Jacques Kallis, Charl Langeveldt Standard Bank One-Day International Cricketer of the Year: Hashim Amla, AB de Villiers, Jacques Kallis CSA Test Cricketer of the Year: Hashim Amla, Jacques Kallis, Dale Steyn SA Cricketer of the Year: Hashim Amla, AB de Villiers, Jacques Kallis, Dale Steyn http://www.sport24.co.za/Cricket/Aml...inees-20100713 Amla...good for the next captain of the team...bring in new talent of his morality and create a fresh vibe , i find the current squad comfortable in a awkward statistical warmth having lost the sight of national aims and pride. PD.

Personally I think we go the best chance, I know India with home advantage will be very difficult but seeing how we destroyed Australia yesterday one cannot look past us. Its all about the key players keeping their cool under pressure situations and seeing out games properly.

We have a nice mix now - and the spin bowling depth is starting to look like our major asset now!
I know it was a warm up - but honestly we toyed with the aussies. They looked like we were bowling hand grenades, and they came on and bowled boundaries - lovely to watch, warm up or not... |

It may have been a warm-up, but we both wanted a win for a moral boost. and we got it. Confidance is everything.

That was one crushing blow dealt by Pakistan - revenge on the 10 wicket vistory the Windies scored against them in 92.
Its wierd, but as we all know, Pakistan are always dangerous in competitions, and it sems that they always get up after being klapped to the floor with poor results and scandals, and rise up fighting pretty quick! ...whereas the Windies just get klapped to the floor and stay there for decades. real pity! - Ireland coulda put up a better fight !

disappointing, people say not to label us chokers but from 108/2 to 170 odd all out, you tell me what you call that? Stupid decisions made by them. I know they're hurting but its their own fault.

Well, this thread went quiet but WHAT a game!
I thought I had seen it all with Levi battering those 13 sixes like he was from another planet, but this win actually tops it. We have just won the unwinnable game, and firmly put the chokers medal around New Zealand's neck! Man, they must be dying right now! Never give up, they say, and if you don't believe it after a fightback like this, you never will. And two massive new finds for us to top it off - Levi and Marchant - one bowls at over 150 Kms off a 7 step run up, and the other hits the ball at 5000 Kms off no run up!

Was an exciting game in the last few overs but nothing to celebrate about as a South African supporter. |

There is the little thing of winning the series to celebrate. Also climbing to No 2 on the rankings. Also winning from an unwinnable position, somehow defending a tiny amount of remaining runs, holding all the sky high catches in the dying moments. There is the fact that NZ now have this monkey on THEIR back as we begin the series proper. So thats quite a bit to celebrate as a South African supporter!

It was an epic game - I was reading it ball by ball on cricinfo due to no Foxtel, and also no internet powerful enough to stream. It was thrilling, I knew at 10 overs that it wasnt over, and that Botha would be the answers to building pressure, but had the unenviable task of reading the scene as the tension mounted. Funny that pundits think NZ has the mental edge over us. I can recall a Commonwealth Tri Series in Australia where lance klusner hit a boundary on the last ball to win an epic match , and it hit the rope, thus making it a 6 and we won that one. I recon we have had their number more often in none WC games! go on boys!!!

It's all just antipodean hype - if you look at our record against NZ, there is no contest - so I suppose when they do beat us, especially if it's close, they make a big deal of it, which is actually quite flattering for us.
Anyway, I think this current team is going to give us lots to smile about in the next year or so...

Can we celebrate this win then, Inertia, as SOUTH AFRICAN supporters? Or is there also 'nothing to celebrate'?
