MXP/LIN/BGY | Milan Metro Area Airports

Milan is served by 3 International airports, Malpensa,Linate e Orio al Serio

Milan-Malpensa International Airport
It's Milan's largest airport. It is located 40 Km ca. from centre of city.
It is one of 3 airports in the Milan metropolitan area
The Airport is connected to Milan by the Milano-Varese highway as well as by the "Malpensa Express" suburban train starting from the Milan Cadorna Nord railway station (LeNord regional railways) and taking about 40 minutes. It is connected to Linate Airport and Orio al Serio Airport by a scheduled bus service and by Milan's local transportation. The Milan airport system has a third international airport, Orio al Serio Airport, which serves low-cost traffic.

Malpensa was the 23rd busiest airport in Europe in terms of passengers, handling 17,551,635 passengers in 2009 (25.8 million with Linate, the second airport of Milan, closer to downtown and over 33 million with Orio al Serio Airport, Milan's low-cost airport). As of early 2008, Malpensa remains the top Italian airport in terms of international traffic, together with Rome Leonardo da Vinci Airport in terms of total passengers. As far as hub transit passengers are concerned it is also the second airport in Italy after Rome, according to ASSAEROPORTI traffic data. It is also the leading air freight gateway to Italy. Malpensa serves a population of over 15 million inhabitants.
easyJet has a dedicated Terminal (T2) and Malpensa is that company's biggest base outside the UK.
In 2008 Lufthansa announced plans to create its first hub outside Germany, and its fourth European hub.[3] In October 2008 Lufthansa set up its Italian division, Lufthansa Italia. SEA and Lufthansa have a memorandum of understanding for future development and improvement of current facilities. In July 2009 Lufthansa announced that it had requested 10 additional daily slots at Malpensa.[4] As of July 2010, "Lufthansa Italia" serves fifteen destinations from Milan.
Malpensa has two terminals and a third runway has been announced, with completion set for 2012.[4] There is also a dedicated cargo terminal called "CargoCity", which currently handles over 410,000 tons of yearly traffic.

Milpensa, for a fairly new airport, looks quite old and dated already. It seems quite brutalist in parts.
It was sad to see Alitalia move away though in the way it did, but it is great to see LH move in. The only thing is, why do the LH signs all have English and German, but no Italian?

You would need a good reason restyling more contemporary, but remains a wonderful airport in Europe I've seen worse

Regarding the signs scattered around the airport lufthansa I can not answer, do not know why the airline has decided to keep only two languages in German and English, although there is the Italian subsidiary based at Malpensa Lufthansa Italia, but this not a problem, important that LH has decided to turn his fourth European hub in MXP everything else is irrelevant after the departure of Alitalia

Milan-Linate [City Airport of Milan]

Linate Airport (IATA: LIN, ICAO: LIML) is one of the three major airports of Milan, Italy, along with Malpensa Airport and Orio al Serio Airport. Due to its closer proximity to Milan, it is 4.2 NM (7.8 km; 4.8 mi) east southeast of the city,[1] compared with Malpensa, which is 21.58 NM (39.97 km; 24.83 mi) northwest of the city,[1] it is mainly used for domestic and short-haul international flights, with over 9.6 million passengers in 2006. Its name comes from the small village where it is located in the town of Peschiera Borromeo. Its real name is "Airport Enrico Forlanini", after the Italian inventor and aeronautical pioneer born in Milan. Linate airport buildings are located in the Segrate Municipality, and the field is located for a large part in the Peschiera Borromeo Municipality.
It was built next to Idroscalo of Milan in the 1930s when Taliedo Airport (located 1 km (0.62 mi) from the southern border of Milan), and one of the world's first aerodromes and airports, became too small for commercial traffic. Linate was completely rebuilt in the 1950s and again in the 1980s.
The larger airport serving Milan is Malpensa Airport (IATA: MXP, ICAO: LIMC). Linate and Malpensa airports are connected by highways and by service buses. The third airport of the Greater Milan area is Orio al Serio, located 1 km (0.62 mi) east of Bergamo, 42 km (26 mi) east of Milan.

Etihad Airways will activate on June 2 near the new daily Abu Dhabi-Malpensa anticipating the opening date than originally planned, or August. The airline's decision comes following the positive trend of reservations and with a high demand for business traffic to reach destinations in the Far East, Indian Subcontinent and Australia. The operating Milan Malpensa Abu Dhabi provides daily departures at 11.55 on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday and 21.55 on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. "Anticipating the flights from June to August is the best choice we could do - said Lorna Dalziel, Etihad's country manager for Italy - and so we decided to increase our service. " "The Italian market is of strategic importance in Europe - added Marco Sick, Area Manager Southern Europe Etihad Airways -. Among our aims is to enhance tourism in Abu Dhabi just for the long weekend, in addition to the benefits that we provide to our passengers through Abu Dhabi Essential to the project. "
