Projects in Vilnius

Lithuanian forum miestai.mip.lt is dead so I decided to create a new thread about projects in Vilnius here. Btw @Mantaz: Will miestai.mip.lt ever be "alive" again?
This thread is dedicated to all sort of projects and news from Vilnius a bit of OT is allowed here too .

In the first post I'll give a list of mostly already known projects (atleast for the members of our Lithuanian forum).

High-rise buildings (which are U/C or quite certainly will be U/C):

1-2. Two 23 floor residentials near press high-rise.

3. 17 floor building (part of "The Gates" project):

4. Victoria tower 16-story 76.3-m high in Bussiness Triangle district:

5-6. Two 16 floor residentials

7-8. Two 16-floor residential buildings

9. 16 floor residential building (identical building to this one is already finished):

10-11. Complex of two 16 floor buildings and eight 11 floor buildings:
(btw in their web site it was written about this project: "original architecture" - funny isn't it )

12. 16 floor residential:

13. 14 floor building (part of "The Gates" project)

14. SBA office building 12 (?) floors

15. 12 floor office building in Bussiness Triangle district (six floors will be added to already existing building). I don't
know when this project will be realised so it does not actually fall in the category of buildings which "quite certainly will be soon U/C".

16. complex of 12 floor buildings

Other buildings:

"Grand Duke Palace" (stupid name) - the old building will be extended and renovated. It is already u/r. There are more
buildings similar to this one renovated in Vilnius. Rendering:

New casino in Vilnius? (I just found some renderings on the net but I don't know anythig about it):

10 floor office building:

And there are loads of other projects - mostly residential buildings or residential-office buildings and some small office buildings like this one:

hmm well some of these projects are really nothing special...
but a few projects made me angry!!!!

didn't they know that vilnius already has way too many commie-blocks
they should take away forbid such architects to design buildings... but probably building company is behind this all they care for is to get money, i just hope that one day this huge demand of housing will be gone and people will have a chance to choose between crap and real architecture.

but i still think very highly of vilnius gate project, sba tower and victoria tower (wich will be completed really soon)

Is there a possibility to make Riga and Tallinn threads sticky as well?

Agreed, that would be fair.

Thanks dw, for making it sticky . I agree - Riga and Tallinn threads should be sticked too. But maybe there will be too many sticked threads? (five). If yes, then this thread should be unsticked too - otherwise as Ober said it wouldn't be fair.

@Mantaz: We'll be waiting .

Reconstruction of Gediminas avenue continues

Part of Gediminas avenue is already reconstructed - but only small part of it. Today reconstruction works of other 260 m. long part starts. The reconstruction of this part will end in 2004.12.10. There will be 42 trees planted (the old ones are already gone), lighting, clocks, trash bins, benches will be the same as the ones in reconstructed part of Gediminas avenue. This reconstruction is a part of the third reconstruction stage. There will be five reconstruction stages:

"etapas" means stage.

1-st stage was the reconstruction of Cathedral square and the 2-nd stage - the reconstruction of the first part of Gediminas avenue.
The most interesting I think will be the 4-th stage (time period: 2005-2006). In this stage big square - "Lukiškių" square will be reconstructed.
Lukiškių square is inside that red area:

Nice projects! Well, most of them, why do they have to build new commieblocks?

The thing is, about other threads becoming sticky, that here are far more Lithuanians than Latvians and Estonians, plus Vilnius has more projects....the threads about Tallinn and Riga can't possibly generate as much interest and updates as the ones about Vilnius.

@Renx: You are wrong - most of Lithuanians are gone - it's summer afterall . Now I think that there are more active members from Tallinn than from Vilnius and I also think that Tallinn development thread is and will be much more active than this one - so it should be made sticky for sure. I stay with my previous opinion - all three threads should be sticked or all three threads should be unsticked .

May be the approach could be like this: make another subchapter - "City updates" where you can go and see, how are the cities in this region doing.
Btw. I am thinking abouth long-thread "Latvia outside Riga" - it could be interesting too.

One more new project: a 10 or 12 storey office building will be built in the Akropolis shopping and entertainment complex. Most of the offices will be accomodated by VP Market, but some wil be for rent.

The expansion of the complex should be finished by the end of November.

Yes, and regarding Gediminas prospect - sure it will be the grand prospect of Baltics. Other cities (except Kaunas) will not have such glorious prospect. Brivibas Street in Riga is a bit too trafficky, although it is very nice too. Kr. Barona street in Riga may become wonderful if the city would be wise enough to make it into something like Gediminas prospect.

@Gatis: I agree - the best idea is to make a "City updates" subsection.
@Vaidas: This year by the end of November?? Hm the building process seems to be quite fast .
@Blimey: "just another street"? It can't be compared to any other street in Vilnius I think . From 6 oclock the traffic is not allowed - but I am also disapointed that it isn't fully pedestrian street .

@EDD:Gedimino is nothing more than a clean beautiful street. Thre's no streets like that in the Baltics but there's thosuands of them in Paris, London, etc.
The only way to make something special out of that street is to ban traffic completely.
