Judging by the website, the main feature isn't the arcade, rather a more exciting development is been built opposite. We can only assume there aren't any tenants yet....
What happened to Spring 2011 definite open... Autumn now. |

Those shop units do seem rather small imo although of course it could be the Central Arcades niche to get more smaller independent retailers in as opposed to the large chain shops across the road at Trinity Leeds. Also will Central Arcade have a glass roof to let in natural light and I wonder how many people will access the upstairs considering the stairs and lift don't seem particularly prominent to encourage shoppers upstairs.

Upstairs is linked through House of Fraser.

Where does it mention that there will be direct access to House of Fraser from this development? I can't see anything on the Central Arcade website mentioning this? Still I guess it would be good to at least add a bit of floor space to House of Fraser if such a thing is indeed happening.

I think that might have been an early plan, but that has not happened, as far as I know. HOF have only recently refurbished the Leeds store, so I don't think there are any plans at the moment. It is a shame, as the upper levels of the arcade area could have been a nice cafe area, allowing expansion of the current sales area into the rather dark current cafe area. The lower level could have been part of the cosmetic / accessories area. Nicely complemented on the other side by independent retailers/boutiques. It is a lost opportunity in that sense.

A photo I took today of the construction work from a different angle, this time looking down the alley where the Distrikt bar is. Suffice to say a Summer 2011 opening is looking optimistic now.

Well the works at the Market Street Arcade are certainly taking a long time to complete. I wonder if a lack of signed tenants could be a reason why these works are taking so long (certainly cannot see a completion of Summer 2011 for instance)?

Looking at that picture, it seems more like Summer 2012 before its finally finished.

Yesterday morning Monday 5th September the back entrance was wide open and the ground floor looked close to completion. Couldn't see any balcony level so still making the assumption that any levels above ground floor are an extension to H.O.F

Walked past here today- the hoardings were open at the back for a van. There were clearly people working in there, and a glass roof had been built. All of the structure seemed to be in place, although no glass (that I could see) in shopfronts.

As in Central Street over near Park Square? I'm puzzled as to why they are advertising it over there or do you mean at the estate agents? I've been told it's been pushed back to Spring 2012.

Originally they said Spring this year. In other words, it's finished when it's finished. I walked past a few weeks ago and the back was open; works were definitely progressing. They're probably in no rush as they're waiting for the Trinity effect.

From what I gather work has been slow due to take up of the units being equally slow (and that the Summer 2011 opening originally only referred to the external facing units, the arcade itself was to follow in early 2012). |
