Well, I prefer the Naboo kind of city. By far.
Classical European beauty, lots of greenery, lots of space, squares and public areas.

Coruscant might be exciting to look at for a while, but that's no place to live.
Anyway, Dubai is far from looking that exciting.

Shanghai perhaps comes close, I mean... Ja.

The only thing missing are those neat flying Star Wars vehicles.

Little bonus - almost Coruscant density of Shanghai:

liveable city.
Have you ever been to any asian cities ? The vibrancy is incomparable.
You will not find this in european or american cities. I prefer chaotic and
not so well planned cities like Bangkok, Manila or Mumbai.
But maybe for some people it is too much to stand.

Anyway. I vote for my hometown. Its setting and skyline are unique.

I love Hong Kong's skyline, even though NYC has an amazing and beautiful skyline too, I think the one of Hong Kong's better. So I voted HK.

Shanghai's size is impressive but it looks like a mess. Not cohesive or pleasing.

Well, I guess it will remain a matter of taste... I don't really like Shanghai that much, honestly, Beijing looks more appealing

But I still believe there may be a strong hitorical bias behind the aestetic choices of us all.

You need a website to host your photos - create an account with photobucket, that's the one I use and just copy and paste the URL of each photo into your posts - I'd love to see some great photos of New York.

You know, how we always tend to privilege things which are closer or more related to ourselves than all else. And culture plays a big role in determining these kinds of things, just think about how Europe (and for the last century, mostly the US) has promoted it's image, itself and it's own values throughout the land; it only comes as natural that many people feel more inclined to relate Paris to the concepts of "beauty and romance" than, I don't know, Delhi?

I'm obviously not saying that there isn't an intrinsic value to each of these cities that can justify the appeal, all I'm sugesting is that the appeal itself may be no more than a conditionate notion. But on a strictly pragmatic sense, it doesn't really matter, as I for one still find Paris to be on the most fascinating places on Earth, after all

well!

Skyline in a picture? Skyline when walking through the city? I would chose the later as the ultimate conditional test, lets see. Character of the city should match its architecture, magnitude of the city is always awe striking now this again should meet the first condition that is, in this case, the population size should match the size and the number of towers and lastly the finishing should be top notch for example some of the pictures I saw of Hong Kong are downright ugly. My top choices are Tokyo and New York City. I've driven on I-95 and its offshoots, and from New Haven, CT to East Burnswick, NJ, I can tell you the size and scale of this city are something you have to see for yourself. This includes New York City that essentially makes the center of this amazing drive and when the sun is setting (thanks to air pollution) the view of the skyline is simply spectacular. When walking through NYC, the experience is uniquely global yet American: the energy of people and the architecture tells an immigrant story who is both creative and industrious. Tokyo the worlds largest city is shown as the dream world's Eden in the classic Solaris, Bill Murry swims in one of the worlds most amazing swimming pool's and Quentin Tarantino shows the world a culture centered around the warrior spirit and a technological fetish. To me Tokyo represents the cutting edge in neo modern style, essentially it seems like a city that personifies artificial intelligence (especially since a solution to an imminent demographic collapse was sought through robotics) and with Mt. Fuji representing the courage of the samurai.

P.S. My vote goes to Tokyo to offset some of the lopsided numbers.
