Frankfurt Skyline and views from MAIN TOWER - Nightsky’s trip to central Germany

I thought it was worth a separate thread dedicated to pictures I took of Frankfurt’s skyline while I was there in April this year, the journey when I was stuck because of the volcano on Iceland.

Frankfurt has probably the best downtown skyline of all European cities with its many skyscrapers, reminding of an American city. It has no competition
in Germany. Paris and London have more skyscrapers, but not in the city center. That is because it counts as the financial center of Europe. The skyline
has given Frankfurt nicknames as "Mainhattan" and "Bankfurt". 3 of the tallest buildings in Europe (outside of Russia) are situated in Frankfurt's city
center, but London Bridge Tower will beat Frankfurt's tallest, Commerzbank Tower, in a few years.

SKYLINE VIEWS FROM MAIN TOWER

This page is about the views I took from the observation platform on the roof of MAIN TOWER, Frankfurt's 3rd tallest skyscraper and the only building
with an observation deck in Frankfurt, despite the large number of tall buildngs. The platsform is located on the height of 200m. Main Tower was built
in 1999 and is 240m tall to the top of the mast. The views are really impressive since Frankfurt has a lot of skyscrapers. The strange thing is that not
a single plane was visible, because of the volcano on Iceland that made all flights cancelled the same day I arrived in Frankfurt in April 2010!

Main Tower is the only building where it is possible to go up and see the city from above. Don't miss the Main Tower section, for more skyline views.

Silver Tower, Skyper and Hauptbahnhof. In the far distance is the airport, with no planes!

Commerzbank Tower.

Altstadt.

Sachsenhausen.

Note the EU symbol.

Hauptbahnhof and my hostel to the right in the photo.

Frankfurt International Airport, center of the picture. Note that there are not a single airplane visible because of the volcano on Iceland!

The top of the mast reaches a height of 240m.

MAIN TOWER from below.

I visited MAIN TOWER again the same day after dark. I took the pictures a Friday night just before closing time, in my opinion the best night shots I have taken.

To the south: Commerzbank Tower, the tallest building in the EU, has a green light at night! It is 300m to the top of the spire. You can also see River Main.

To the west: DZ Bank, Messeturm and Trianon.

Mainhattan by night.

Messeviertel skyline dominated by Messeturm. This skyline is together with Westend a bit separated from the financial district's skyscrapers.

Skyline seen from Messe, the fair area, with the sculpture "Man on hammer" to the right.

Henninger Turm. This 120m tall building from 1968 is currently unused and there have been plans to tear it down. There used to be an observation deck on the circular
top section, a shame it is not there anymore since it would be a great possiblity to take photos of the skyline from afar. It was originally built as a silo and was Frankfurt's
tallest building until 1974, hard to believe today!

Skyline seen from Sachsenhausen, dominated by Commerzbank Tower.

Frankfurt panorama from the left: Dreikönigskirche in Sachsenhausen, River Main, Trianon, Commerzbank, Main Tower and more, OpernTurm and Kaiserdom.

Large size: http://www.worldtravelimages.net/Fra...ma_Bridge1.jpg

The skyline of Frankfurt's financial district seen from Alte Brücke. From the left: European Central Bank, Skyper, Commerzbank - EU:s current tallest buildling,
MainTower (where I visited th observation deck) and Alte Nikolaikirche. Unfortunately both Messeturm and DZ Bank, 2 of Frankfurt's tallest, are hidden behind
Commerzbank from this angle. View from Alte brücke.

Skyline of the south part of Bahnhofsviertel district, dominated by the circular Westhafen Tower to the left. View from Alte brücke.

A modern tram passing by St Bartholomeus Church (Kaiserdom) and the skyline.

View towards the new apartment buildings in the northeast from Flösserbrücke.

Sachsenhausen skyline dominated by Main Plaza. To the left is Triangel Plaza.

Please don't turn it into a city vs city thread. But I agree that Essen has an underrated skyline and Munich also looks nice. Now let's go back to Frankfurt.
