Thanks for sharing. I don't mind if people post their pics that show different faces of Krakow with a focus on its beauty. Next time I go I plan on showcasing Krakow's many museums although most of them are either under construction or renovation right now.

Next set of pics coming soon.

Yes, I agree. The two towers of St.Mary's are very beautiful, but the interior is even more amazing. I will try to find some pics of that to show you.

I know some people of Polish background who have just moved to Poland to start a business and I might be considering it too - would be an adventure, I'm sure
What kind of business? Were there any difficulties? I'm thinking of doing that.
I also can't believe Varsovians were friendly then Krakowians.

Well, I'm looking for a place to live and am not sure what sort of business yet since my profession does not lend itself to being transferred to Poland mainly due to language barrier - my Polish is not great. It would be nice to chat about possibilities by e-mail in this forum if you want to brainstorm.

Let me clarify, Krakowians weren't rude, but they weren't as smiley faced as they were when I was there last. Then again, they had just gone through massive flooding and that presidential plane crash, so that would make anyone sombre. Service was good and they provided me with excellent help wherever I went, but they just didn't give that little bit extra everywhere. In Canada we are accustomed to friendly, albeit phoney, it's still nice.

When it comes to the banking industry, Canada could learn from Poland, excellent service there and very willing to consider business ventures.

Are you from Poland originally?

I only came across some nasty old women in Warsaw wearing mohair berets - they yelled at me when I stepped on one old lady's toe by accident Overall people in Warsaw were a little friendlier, but that's just one experience.

Yes I was born near Wroclaw. I am glad to hear that they are willing to take chances on small business ventures.

what I mean't was that they just seemed tired most of the time and not all that thrilled that I was there. maybe it was just me, because the heat wave made me miserable too.

I just think it's different culture and most people rather don't smile without a reason. It's hard for employer to force the smiles upon his employees. Also wages aren't to high (especially in service industry) so they don't have motivation to make efforts

The service industry in Toronto pays very poor wages too, but I think in our Canadian and English culture its common to smile or laugh when one is uncomfortable or when greeting someone to put them at ease, especially when they are in a strange city. Regardless of all that, I must say I was impressed by how consistently honest and helpful people were.

What makes Krakow ever more interesting and has brought me back again and again is that there is so much to do in the vicinity of the city - the castles along the Eagles Route built by Casimir the Great like Pieskowa Skala, the 10th Century Tyniec Monastery, whitewater rafting along the Dunajec, the Carpathian mountains for walking tours and skiing in winter, smaller historic towns like Zbiecz and Wieliczka with its UNESCO designated salt mines. I went there in 2008 for the second time. It appeared that a fair bit of restoration had been done and some new galleries were opened. These salt mines are out of this world - miners chistled away at rock salt for hundreds of years to create underground cathedrals and various sculptures. They are a great place for people with lung problems.

I have included a few just for a taste. Unfortunately you have to pay to photograph the most amazing things.
