wow, that is so amazing. I think they have a bog show planned for when the new underground museum of Krakow history opens - too bad the water fountain may not be fully operationale. thanks for sharing.

Oh what a night! I'm going to add a few more pics from opening night (thanks marcin-krak) and some shots of interior of the underground (archeological) museum of Krakow history:
btw, first reviews are in and the museum appears to be a big hit, although there are some detractors as can be expected. Biggest vote of confidence somes from the city heritage conservator who was very skeptical of this museum`s chances for success. A number of the keys exhibits including the 13th century weight scale are still not ready. This was a dry run actually. I can`t wait to go there myself. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() And the interior: ![]() real vampire grave ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() the fountain a la I.M Pei Louvre Pyramid that will shed some light into the underground museum is not quite ready (water wasn`t on)

More pics of the glass pyramid/fountain (sort of reminiscent of IM Pei Louvre Pyramid on a smaller scale )the will shed light onto the underground archeological museum. Should become a great meeting place. Water has not been turned on full-time yet.
Thanks. Mr. America ![]()

Krakow's first ped/bike bridge links the well known old town of Krakow with the Podgorze neighbourhood on the other side of the river.
![]() The area is becoming well known for the Schindler museum but next year two new museums open here - the Museum of Modern Art in the Schindler factory and the Cricoteka, a really cool museum celebrating the works of Tadeusz Kantor. Btw, NY Times had a good article on this neighbourhood recently http://www.nytimes.com/slideshow/201...SURFACING.html I will have have some more pics of the area shortly. |

One more fountain shot - there is some controversy about whether it's tacky or not. personally, I like the juxtaposition of simple modernistic forms next to historic one, they seem to strengthen each other.

I really, really wish I got the chance to visit Wawel Castle when I was in Krakow last summer. Looks surreal.

You would like it. The crypts with all the Polish kings, recently restored chapels, some of the best examples of Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque would impress, but what always gives me goosebumps is the courtyard of the royal apartments with its loggias. There is also an amazing view from the top of Zigmunt's Tower. I didn't do the castle either because of the huge crowds and besides there is so much more to see than just thye castle - Podgorze, Kazimierz, Tyniec Abby etc.
