Australian Highways are more European looking than American looking.

I agree. The more rural sections look like the American interstates with the large strips of grass in between the two carriageways. In Europe, we tend to have barriers in between all the way along our motorways.

More informations of Imigrantes Highway!!!

The secound speedway of Imigrantes Highway, in São Paulo, was considered the best highway of Brazil in 2002. It has about 100km and 3 strips that down Serra do Mar. It's secound speedway downs 750m from São Paulo to the coast has 8km with inclination of 8º in tunnel's part and very few curves as the first one. The main caractcharacteristic of Imigrantes Highway is that end a tunnel, start a viaduct, end viaduct, start a tunnel.....

Here some pictures of Serra do Mar and Imigrantes Highway:

The Rodovia dos Imigrantes (Imigrantes Motorway in english) is part of a huge 5+5 250km system in São Paulo state, between Campinas (where is located the Silicon Valley) São Paulo city, and the Litoral Norte (Northern Shore) of São Paulo state. The motorways are: Bandeirantes-Anhangüera system (between São Paulo city and Campinas) and the Imigrantes-Anchieta system (between São Paulo city and the Litoral Norte-specifically the city of Santos, that is considered to be the biggest seaport in Latin America and the third in the Southern Hemisphere-after Durban and Perth-I think...). These motorways are some of the most crowded in Brazil, and are all tolled. The Imigrantes Motorway is one of the most modern, it is made mainly of huge viaducts and tunnels that make a fast link between São Paulo city and the Litoral Norte. The Bandeirantes Motorway is considered to be the best in Brazil, along with the Dom Pedro Motorway (linking the Via Dutra Motorway-that is the motorway along the Rio de Janeiro-São Paulo megalopolis, a region that has about 50 million inh., and is one of the most developed in the whole world) and Campinas, and the Ayrton Senna-Carvalho Pinto motorway system, that runs along the Via Dutra Motorway for about 200 km on São Paulo state. Another motorways are being built, and in a very short time we will have a huge system linking the most developed regions of the country. For example, we are now about to finish the Mercosul Motorway, that is going to link Belo Horizonte, capital of Minas Gerais state, passing through São Paulo city, Curitiba (capital of Paraná state), Florianópolis (capital of Santa Catarina state, and considered to be, along the northern part of the state-Florianópolis is right on the middle of SC state- part of Brazil´s second Silicon Valley) and Porto Alegre (capital of Rio Grande do Sul state). This so called Mercosul Motorway is going to have almost 1800 km of 4 lane-6 lane motorway, being one of the most important in Latin America. We are also starting to build the so called Northeastern Corridor, that is a huge motoray system linking 6 of the 9 northeastern capitals in 4 lane motorways, from Salvador-Feira de Santana in Bahia state to Natal, in Rio Grande do Norte state; this is going to be about 1200 km long. We have also another motorways system being built, like the São Paulo-Brasília link, that will have about 1000km of 4 lane-6 lane- 8 lane motorways through the country´s "hinterland". Well, if you guys want more informations about our motorways, please ask!!!!

The 401 in Ontario looks like some of the new motorways here in Brazil, like the Carvalho Pinto-Ayrton Senna system and the Castello Branco Motorway... it looks a lot also with the Freeway in Porto Alegre, capital of Rio Grande do Sul state...
