Ottawa | The Canadian capital

I've been wanting to visit Ottawa for quite sometime already and this summer I've finally realized this desire and ventured to explore the power seat of Canada.

Personally, I've found Ottawa to be highly underrated, as it is a very impressive city.

This is the original Canadian mint. Today, most of the coin production has been moved west, while this fortress-like building produces the most expensive, delicate & technologically superior (on global scale) ceremonial coins. Anyone can sign up for a tour, which includes seeing the whole process of coin production and even an opportunity to hold a gold bar that's worth a $1,000,000.00

Canadian money manufacturing industry is among the most sophisticated in the world, they print money for dozens of other countries

Notre Dame de Ottawa

Museum of Art

To be continued.

Great pics! I agree, Ottawa is greatly under rated, and is a very pretty city to visit.

Why is it underrated? If I am ever going to visit Canada (and I certainly wil within the next 5 years) I will certainly include Ottowa.

Totally forgot that I left this thread hanging. Let's continue.

Just a house

The central area despite not being built up with skyscrapers still gives off that skyscraperish North American big city feel

This is in the atrium of the national bank building - if my memory serves me right. There's an interesting world money history museum in there.

The central city architecture can be divided into two parts. First, very modern, very new, glass and concrete, bright etc and second is very British Gothic-Revival turn of the century grand buildings.

And also some French influences here and there. To my surprise, almost everyone seemed to speak French there, by the way, however when I googled the language subject prior to my visit, everything pointed towards a more anglophone environment there.

A lot of gold on display at the old mint

My Dad raved about Ottawa when he visited. It does seem to have an elegance and beauty to it.

I never realised the city looked so good. There really is an eclectic mix of architecture which is great, feels as though France, Scotland and America mashed together.

Looks a very nice and dense city, indeed. I think Ottawa is underrated because it's somewhat 'in the shadow' of Quebec, Montréal and Toronto.
