It was always weird to me that Beijing had such a shit skyline for so long. Beijing and Shanghai are still ass ugly but Guangzhou and a few others make up for it. This tower looks great though.

I have yet to visit Guangzhou but from the photos i have seen there appears to be little coherance between the architectural styles with many buildings competing for individual attention rather than complementing each other. Shenzhen and Shanghai are my favourite Chinese cities in terms of skyline and in many other aspects. Beijing, Wuhan and Tianjin are only starting to develop a strong visual identity with their latest 500m+ projects.

What's so 'ass ugly' about Beijing fella? Does pretty well for a city of 18 million people emerging into a prosperous, modern metropolis.

Would hardly call a city with as many intensely beautiful places (Summer Palace, Fragrance Hill, North Sea, Jing Shan etc.), as much awe-inspiring history and as many powerful statements such as the Forbidden City and Temple of Heaven 'ass ugly'. And I haven't even included the Great Wall. 'Ass ugly'?? Very strange opinion indeed!

The live stream in English was very interesting, but I have a headache from all of that pixellation and video dropouts.

I definitely wouldn't call Beijing ugly. It's a magnificent city! Plenty of beautiful areas as already mentioned by Melbourne Muse, and the urban planning is good with the Forbidden City etc in the centre, and all the new skyscrapers pushed out to the sides. It's such a vibrant city, never dull, great to explore!

This particular tower is looking great - it was nowhere close to rising the last time I was in Beijing but it's bringing such a huge transformation to the CBD! Very exciting indeed.

Back in Beijing at the moment for the first time since 2013 and it's pace of change continues to accelerate.

If you've not explored Beijing at night then you're missing out - simply spectacular and about 5 leagues above somewhere like little old Boston.

I certainly have explored Beijing at night, many times. My family actually lived there between 2010 and 2013 because of my dad's job and we lived in the heart of the city, so I was out and about a lot, both during the day and during the night. It's so vibrant, it really never sleeps and it's something I love. It's chaotic in areas but it's good fun chaos that you just can't resist getting stuck in with! I miss it so much, and I am keen to return. Partly to see this tower, and partly just to relive the Beijing experience!

Didnt mean beijing overall just in its high rises. Noting that it has 18 million people makes it worse. This tower is great though and theyre clearly moving in the right direction.
