CLEVELAND Photo Tour (July 2010), Part 1: Downtown

I visited Cleveland on my Northern Ohio tour from July 14th-18th of this year.

Here in the first part of my phototour, I took pictures of mainly Cleveland's downtown and the lakeshore.

Reserve Square Apartments

Allerton Apartments

Embassy Suites

Chesterfield Building

Ohio Savings Bank

Chester Commons

The Historic and Classic Huntington Bank Building

Looking up at the PNC Building...

Base of Huntington Bank Building

Cleveland Trust Building and Tower, similar concept to the old Buffalo Savings Bank building

City Club Building

Huntington Bank Building

Cleveland's famous and historic Euclid Avenue

Cleveland Trust and Clock...

Historic Buildings along Euclid...

Wyndham Hotel, in the city's Theater District...

Cleveland's Theater District

Playhouse Square Complex

Ohio and State Theatres

Palace Theatre

Cleveland State University

The Halle Building (No, not named after Halle Berry, who was born and raised in Cleveland)

Winton Manor

Ohio Medical Mutual Building

Caxton Building

AT&T Huron Building

Colonial Marketplace

Terminal Tower and Prospect Fourth Building

Key Tower, second-tallest building between Chicago and New York City (after the Comcast Center in Philadelphia)

200 Public Square (home to the worst Oil company, ever, British Petroleum)

Gen. Moses Cleaveland Statue, founder of the city

Base of Tower City Center, once a railroad terminal station...

Looking up at the Terminal Tower...

Soldiers and Sailors Monument, Public Square...

House of Blues Concert Venue

The Historic Arcade Building

4th Street Entertainment and Nightlife District

Corner Alley Bowling Lanes, one of the rare downtown locations for a bowling alley anywhere...

Holiday Inn Express

Cleveland School District Building

Key Tower again...

Cleveland Browns Stadium, the sister of Buffalo's Ralph Wilson Stadium

Great Lakes Science Center

The Famous Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum (which I visited on this trip on the Saturday)

Cleveland's Lake Shore Industry...

Lakefront Walking Area

Lake Erie, looking towards Canada (and Ontario, my home turf)

Cleveland skyline shots from the Lakefront

Birthplace of Rock and Roll Plaque

Behind the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

East Downtown Cleveland

Rear of the Cleveland Convention Center

Cleveland City Hall

FREE Stamp

One of the many guitars in the city...

Rear of the Cuyahoga County Courthouse

Front of the Cuyahoga County Courthouse

St. Clair Building

Looking up at Key Tower

Society for Savings Building

Historic Old Stone Church

Key Tower

I ate my supper that night in the 4th Street Nightlife area as suggested by a very friendly city hall employee

I ate at 4th Street Bar and Grill, good fish and chips, hopefully it was out of Lake Erie, the fish!

Looking up at 200 Public Square

The Arcade

Inside the arcade, one of the most magnificent enclosed shopping malls I have seen, makes my beloved provincial capital's Eaton Centre look like crap...

Hope you enjoyed the first part of my Cleveland trip!

COMING SOON... night shots, University Circle, Little Italy, Cleveland Clinic, Warehouse District, Indians/Tigers games.

What a great bunch of shots of downtown Cleveland and its many historic buildings - as well as some of its newer ones. Sure are a lot of those big, classic, monumental stone buildings. Thanks Jaybird.

That is an impressive city. Phat, solid, well thought and classic density.
Thanks for posting these.

Nice pictures. I was in Cleveland a little more than a week before you and I recognize places that I saw. You seemed to have covered twice as much as me. There are a lot of nice older highrises that I wish that I had come across.

Jaybird, I'm almost three years too late but I thought that I would show my appreciation for the great shots that you took of Cleveland. Not exactly what the media depicts of this sleeping giant. Kudos to ya Jaybird!

A remarkable city that I am proud to say I grew up in. The most underrated city in North America. Would love to see some pics of the unbelievably beautiful suburbs of Cleveland Heights and Shaker Heights. They have some of the greatest early 20th century residential architecture in the US.

My pleasure, TrueVision. I do enjoy taking making cities the media depicts as bad look good!

Hey Cleveland.............guess what, you really are hit.

On the front page of the Arts and Entertainment section of Canada's Globe & Mail newspaper {considered Canada's "national" paper and it's most respected} you are big news.

The story "Think you know Cleveland?" is a very glowing report of the rennaisance of your fair metropolis and how it has become a food, entertainment, and hipster mecca. How the city has become so inviting especially thru it's many neighbourhoods, eateries, arts, and conventions. How the downtown has become hip, urbane, and has many beautiful architectural gems.

Atleast in Canada, you couldn't hope for a better and more national spotlight if you tried. Canada is your biggest international tourist draw and this can only help.

The old adage of "no news is good news" doesn't work when trying to sell your city to businesses and tourists and as far as Canadians go, you just got a big shot in the arm.
