I would have actually preferred if people had moved to SSL instead of here, but as long as at least one of the forums is alive, I'm not complaining. The reason is that SSL is technologically superior and has more features, and obviously someone cares more about that site because they always update the forum software for the benefit of the forumers.

Tapuz is the worst in this regard. Their software is ancient, and even the "upgrade" they did in 2008 is inferior to what vBulletin was in 2002.
I also don't like Tapuz because it's in Hebrew, but unfortunately for many Israelis this is exactly why they post only there and avoid this and other English-language forums. |

There are two reasons: new features, and bug fixes.
Tapuz has many bugs, for example encoding problems (if you log out the page is encoded in windows-1255, while logged in it's UTF-8), image display problems (image popups might display incorrectly, not to mention being blocked by many popup blockers), and browser incompatibility (many problems with anything other than IE). Thankfully SSC doesn't have any obvious bugs (that I know of), however, it is apparent that SSL is faster, although I haven't checked whether this is a software- or network-related reason. In terms of features, there are many that exist in SSC and not in Tapuz, and in SSL and not in SSC. For example, SSL has an auto-resize feature for images, which is indispensable for our purposes. Also it has a reward system which is nice to have. Tapuz's feature set is pathetic, it doesn't even have a continuous thread view. Anyway, as I said, the content of the forum is more important than the feature set, and that's why I post here and in Tapuz, but overall it's important to keep software up to date and with the latest and greatest features. |
