IT Corridor | Technopark Phase II - Parcel B | UST Global Campus | IT SEZ | 3.6 million Sq.ft. | U/C

UST Global is a leading software services firm founded and based in Trivandrum. It currently has close to 8000 employees, mostly in Technopark with the rest spread across its many global locations.

The firm was allocated 36 acres of SEZ land to develop its own campus as part of Technopark Phase II and it has come up with a stunning campus which would eventually seat a whopping 30,000 technology professionals, making it one of the biggest single campuses in the world! The only competition I can think of are the TCS campuses at Pune and Siruseri.

Highlights

Total land area = 36 Acres
Overall Built-up Area = 3.6 Million Sq.ft
Overall capacity = 30,000

Phase I Built-up Area = 800,000 Sq.ft of technology space
Phase I capacity = 8,000
Number of Floors = 16
Height = 80 m

- LEED certified Green Buildings
- Mixed-use Developments incorporating non-processing areas as well such as food courts, retail, sports facilities and MLCP
- Super-tall atrium
- To be developed in 3 Phases
- Includes features such as helipads and corporate suites
- Massive waterbody to also act as rainwater collector

The answer is obvious, but yes the final size of the UST Global campus will significantly exceed that of the 12,000 seater Infosys campus which is also its next door neighbour.

Just these two signature developments put together will add 5 million sq.ft of IT space to Technopark!!!!

Awesome buildings.

BTW Ajay, perspectives show that the towers have about 20 floors. Being office towers, with a probable average 4.2m floor to floor height, this would be equal to the height of 29 floor residential tower.(84m). I think the AMSL of Thejaswini (on the hillock) is 87m or so.

Some UST guys were in touch with me some 2 years back while I was in Trivandrum regarding the maximum height possible at that location. Luckily it is outside the 'take off cone' of TRV as well as outside the first semicircular arc at a distance of 6 km from ARP (Airport Reference Point) which passes through the Akkulam bridge

Very nice, and great usage of space. I am a bit disappointed with INFY for building a 12000 seater in a 50 acre campus. Just a bit though..

Its great that the general aesthetics will mesh will with the INFY buildings - These do look a bit like ships, would at least from the air.

Extremely beatiful !!! (to summarise)
The sprawling campus, the big buildings and the water bodies doting them gave me the impression that I am in the campus of the Oracle headquarters in Redwood shores near San Francisco.
What is the completion date for the entire structures?
I hope that the water bodies are artificial. If there are several water bodies in the different campuses and the rain water can be properly channelised into these, I am sure that there will be no possibility of flooding during rainy season ( like the eastfort and Thampanoor area) and the scare of the water scarcity during drought will be non existant.

All the best to UST Global.

Cheers!!!

Vinod bhai, a single Infosys block does look like ships from the ground itself. From the air they're supposed to appear like the 'coconut leaf', I read in a bulletin somewhere. Lets wait and see whats in store from Infosys for the remaining parcel of land.

This UST Global campus is really going to be the cynosure along the NH Bypass for its sheer design components, generous use of glass, steel and chrome, height factor et al. Quoting Sudheesh, if it is going to be around 90meters and with the highway frontage it will be quite a sight!

Sudheeshji, you remember the old Iyer & Mahesh design for the Infosys Campus in mid 2000 which you posted and created quite a stir here in SSC. Infosys was supposed to incorporate a similar winding waterway in their design but it was scrapped. The reason given was that during monsoon there would be serious issues with the drainage and maintenance of the waterbody. Good to see that UST global has sorted out the issue and is putting into use the open space aesthetically and in an environmentally friendly manner. Kudos!

Awesome !
Seems like Trivandrum Byepass will look like road of ships.
Two from Infy,rest from UST.
The green building will blend perfectly with Trivandrum Ecosystem.
Can any one tell if the waterbody is TS Canal ?
If so,this will be first It building in Trivandrum with water connectivity.

It is not TS Canal, it is comparatively a smaller natural stream, ‘Thettiyaar’. It flows through the entire Technopark Campuses, I, II & III. In Phase I, it flows on the periphery of the Club & Gayathri building.

It is a natural stream, clear water so far, but size is small.

It crosses NH after INFOSYS campus, before ‘Thampuran mukku’. Earlier Iyer & Mahesh had proposed to make use of this stream and make it bigger to create the artificial waterbody. The negative point would have been that the ‘flow or water level’ cannot be controlled as well as the quality. It could be muddy also sometimes.

It is always better to create an artificial water body like this in Brigade Gateway, Bangalore

Piling for the 1st building of 800,000 sq.ft BUA is nearly complete and structural work will commence in a few days. Completion date is late-2011 or early-2012.

Cisco signs agreement with UST Global

Cisco has announced its engagement with UST Global, a leading provider of services and solutions for Global 2000 enterprises, to transform UST’s upcoming campus, in Thiruvananthapuram, into a smart and intelligent campus with Cisco’s Smart+Connected Real Estate solution.

Cisco Smart+Connected Real Estate solutions converge building, safety, and communications networks onto the open Internet Protocol (IP) standard, streamlining processes by providing a single connection for building management and IT systems. The IP-based network can dramatically reduce capital expenditure by simplifying building design and construction, and also enable building managers to reduce carbon footprint and build a sustainable and more energy-efficient environment. This can help the campus achieve a higher rating on the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification.

Joe Nalkara, president, UST Global, said “Through Cisco technology, we’re breaking new ground in terms of our infrastructure. This campus reflects our enduring focus on innovation and lives up to our promise of providing the very best for our associates and customers. We expect this to be the most intelligent campus in India.”

Cisco Services has been working closely with UST on this initiative and has helped design the technology roadmap and architecture blueprint.

G.B. Kumar, managing director, Asia Pacific Vertical Enterprise Practice, Cisco Services, said “We believe that this smart and intelligent campus of UST in Thiruvananthapuram will become the workplace of the future. A Smart+Connected campus can offer significant benefits to the company in terms of operating costs. It also goes a long way towards achieving the goal of a green and sustainable organization, in addition to the motivation and pride it brings to the employees.”

UST Global will roll out the Cisco Smart+Connected Real Estate solution in a phased manner, designed to support their existing and projected business requirements. The scope of the project at the campus includes integrated energy management systems that can be delivered over the converged IP network. This also includes centralized monitoring and control of elevators, Heating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning (HVAC), a Network Operations Centre (NOC), and Security and Facilities Operation Centre (SFOC) operations for physical security, building operations and maintenance.

UST setting up Smart Campus

THIRUVANATHAPURAM: The State Capital could soon boast of having one of the most intelligent IT campuses in the country by next year as UST Global ties up with Cisco Services, a world leader in network solutions, for developing its upcoming campus at the Technopark here as a Smart Campus.

To be completed in three phases, the first phase of the project, with an area of 7.4 lakh square feet, would come into existence by the end of next year with Cisco’s Smart + Connected Real Estate solutions, UST Global president Joe Nalkara and managing director of Asia Pacific Vertical Enterprise Practice of Cisco Service G B Kumar said at a joint news conference here on Monday.

The UST Global’s Smart Campus would open the doors for 35,000 jobs, including 7,500 in the initial phase. UST Global is at present employing nearly 4,000 personnel in its existing facility at Technopark, which is the highest number of employment provided by UST in any location. This status would be retained for Thiruvananthapuram once the new campus comes up, said Joe.

‘’In the Smart Campus, our aim is to integrate and automate all the systems in the campus so as to optimise the utilisation of the resources and thereby enhance the operational efficiency at the best costs. There would be nearly 40-percent energy saving, 30-percent operational cost saving and 54-percent saving in cabling cost. At present, there is no campus in the country that could deliver such intelligent resource management,” said Kumar.

Energy management, centralised monitoring and control of elevators, security solutions, smart card services and automated car parking form part of the Smart+ Connected Real Estate solution. ‘’We hope to provide a better working atmosphere to our professionals in the upcoming Smart Campus through the intelligent solutions to be offered by Cisco and thereby enhance their productivity,’’ said Joe.

The new campus is coming up in an area of 36 acres and it would have five blocks. While three blocks would be for software, one would be for hospitality and the other one for sports and entertainment. The entire campus is expected to be commissioned in another five to six years.

The cost for the first phase would come to around Rs 200 crore and that for the entire campus would be two to three-folds more, Joe said.

Kumar said that Cisco was also in talks with many other leading groups in the country for setting up Smart Campuses.
