A quick 5 day tour around some Western areas of Germany shown in the map:

It's hard to tell it. It has to be experienced: great cities, even greater natural landscapes, unmatched (and I really mean it) public transport and Autobahns with crazy speeds. That's Germany I was enjoying for those short 5 days.

Frankfurt



I was in Frankfurt in 2006 in Winter. It was ok back then but I must say it's much nicer in Summer.

Zeil, the main shopping street. Loads of pedestrian space, underground parkings, fantastic public transport... I guess this is not something uncommon in virtually any city in Germany. Anyway, a great shopping street which is not a hassle but a pleasure to explore

MyZeil, part of the 1bn EUR PalaisQuartier designed by Massimiliano Fuksas. I must admit MyZeil must be the most impressive shopping mall I have ever seen (and I have seen quite a few from London to Singapore and Bangkok)

It is not far from truth here as well. Although I would also add one more thing - transport and infrastructure. It's just remarkable how well developed it is and how easy it is to travel by car, train or anything else (even bicycle if you want ).

Ze Autobanz coming later. But admittedly it was all amazing. I have chosen a wrong direction numerous times (there were so many exits., junctions and all that stuff) but each time it was not a problem because in Ruhr area it means you can just take one of many alternative Autobahn routes which is usually just as fast as any other. Just look at the map... total madness http://maps.google.co.uk/?ie=UTF8&ll...9,2.897644&z=9

The Ruhr area has got to be the most densly populated area in the whole of the western world!

No one can take that from Copenhagen or Amsterdam Seriously though, great pictures. Love Frankfurt and Berlin.

According to this source, it is the 4th densest area in Europe. Others (I guess) should be London and the South East England, perhaps The Netherlands and... something else. Anyway it is one of the most densely populated areas in Europe. When it comes to infrastructure, however, it must be either No.1 or a tie along with Netherlands... coming there from London feels like coming 50 years into the furure... it's just completely mindblowing HOW they managed to build all those Autobahns, bridges, railways, metros and everything else and at what cost. The only place in the world that can compare or beat it is Singapore albeit it's just one city.
