I wonder if any customers will cancel orders due to a one year delay?

Seemingly MRJ is grounded for most of 2016 before it resumes flight tests. It managed 3 flights in November.

Hopefully strengthening won't make it too heavy.

Like the 787 they'll probably be compensated but I doubt many if any will cancel orders.

Mitsubishi Aircraft has cut the standard seating of both versions of its MRJ regional jet to allow for greater distance between rows. The MRJ90 is now rated as an 88-seat aircraft, down from 92 seats, in all-economy configuration, says a spokesperson for the company. The MRJ70’s standard seating is now 76, compared with the original 78. In both cases, the new figures assume 31 in. (79 cm) pitch, up from 29 in. Aircraft dimensions have not changed

An airline can put however many seats it wants, so what exactly is Mitsu trying to do here?

every aircraft has a default/standard configuration and customers can change it.

for the MRJ 90, they are basically removing 1 row, so all the other rows have more space
For the MRJ 70, the first row has only 2 seats, so that is likely being removed

Honda fetes first HondaJet deliveries in U.S.

Quote:
Honda Motor Co. celebrated the first U.S. deliveries of its new HondaJet at a ceremony in Phoenix as it finally marked its long-awaited entry into the aviation market.

The momentous occasion, fulfilling the dream of late founder Soichiro Honda, came 30 years after the company began research on building the small business jet.

Some 130 people, including business moguls, clients and dealers, attended the Friday ceremony, where Honda President Takahiro Hachigo said he was glad to see the founder’s dream come true.

The HondaJet costs about $4.5 million, which is relatively expensive for a small business jet, but features a roomier cabin and better fuel efficiency.

In the small-jet market, U.S. manufacturer Cessna Aircraft Co. and Brazil’s Embraer SA have a leg up on Honda Aircraft Co., but orders have already surpassed 100 units.

Honda Aircraft President Michimasa Fujino said the HondaJet will pose a challenge because it has a competitive edge.

Aerolease Aviation sign LOI for an order of ten firm MRJ90's, plus an option on ten additional MRJ90 aircraft.

Mass production model C-2 first flight in Gifu.

Not exactly a Japanese passenger aircraft as it is a transport aircraft for the military, Kawasaki did say they intend to make a commercial variant (most likely civilian freighter or mixed passenger-freighter) called the YCX that is based on the C-2.

Mitsubishi MRJ Number 2 Makes First Flight

The aircraft, an MRJ90, is the second of five aircraft scheduled to joint the test program of the MRJ. According to Mitsubishi Aircraft president Hiromichi Morimoto, the FTA-2 “had a quiet, smooth first flight.”

The first MRJ flight test aircraft, FTA-1, completed its maiden sortie last November. However, the flying campaign was halted just after three flights, after determining that the aircraft required structural strengthening works and a software update.

First MRJ test aircraft flies to the US in July and the flight testing begins in September. Not sure how many test aircraft will be based in the US at peak.

The Airbus A350 has a black raccoon mask around the cockpit windows on every frame so far. The MRJ has it too except it's grey. Tell me why this is a 'thing'.

The Russians are at it too. I think 'the thing' is a much smaller radar unit and radome in front of modern aircraft and therefore a less bulbous nose meaning the newer noses look pointy like a Raccoon.

Aircraft leasing firms are companies that handle aircraft maintenance on behalf of carriers that lease them. One such firm that is famous is ILFC (International Lease Finance Corporation) that leases out aircraft for the long-term to several carriers. If Aerolease Aviation buys the MRJ, it will then be initially stored in Miami, and then potential airlines wanting to use the aircraft will talk to Aerolease Aviation to lease them for either short- or long-term.

My guess is that the MRJ in the US might be used by either American Eagle, United Express, Delta Connection, or Silver Airways.

1 announcement for a LOI for the MRJ at Farnborough today.

Quote:
Rockton signs LOI with Mitsubishi Aircraft for purchase of up to 20 MRJ

- First European company and second lessor in MRJ program to select the MRJ -

FARNBOROUGH, Hampshire, England, July 11, 2016 –
Mitsubishi Aircraft Corporation and Rockton AB, a regional aircraft leasing company based in Sweden, announced today the entering into a Letter of Intent (LOI) for an order of ten firm MRJ90 aircraft with an option for an additional ten MRJ90 aircraft. Based on this LOI, the companies will move forward to conclude a definitive agreement in the near future. The LOI testifies to the high regard in which Rockton holds the Mitsubishi Regional Jet (MRJ), the next-generation regional jet. Rockton is the first European company and second lessor in MRJ program to select the MRJ. Deliveries to Rockton are scheduled to commence in 2020.

Niklas Lund, President, Rockton said, “We find the MRJ airliner to be an exceptional product that will be operating worldwide in a not too distant future. Rockton is, with great anticipation, looking forward to developing and expanding the future operator base in close co-operation with Mitsubishi Aircraft Corporation. The MRJ is a game changer. Efficient clean-sheet design, unrivalled passenger comfort and new state-of-the-art Pratt & Whitney PW1200G engines herald the future of regional air travel. This new aircraft will provide crucial economic benefits to airlines looking to operate in the 70-90 passenger size segment, especially in comparison with current products. The MRJ fits well into the European market where noise and emission requirements are very stringent. Furthermore, the long range capability of the aircraft allows regional airlines to open new routes from local airports. We are thrilled to work closely with an OEM like Mitsubishi Aircraft Corporation with its long and solid standing within the aerospace industry.”

“This European lessor order from Rockton will give the MRJ program the burst of momentum to expand customer base in Europe,” said Hiromichi Morimoto, President, Mitsubishi Aircraft Corporation. “We are pleased to conclude this LOI with Rockton and to build a strong partnership to market the MRJ in Europe. We firmly believe that the combination of expertise of Rockton and the state-of-the-art MRJ will create a new path to the European lease financing market and provide a variety of solutions for customers.”

Thus far, 407 MRJ aircraft are on order and 40 will be added to its order book when Mitsubishi Aircraft signs a definitive agreement with Rockton and Aerolease Aviation. The total of 447 MRJ aircraft include 243 firm orders with 180 options and 24 purchase rights.

Mitsubishi Aircraft anticipates demand of about 5,000 aircraft in the regional jet market over the next twenty years. Demand for regional aircraft is expected to increase for both airlines and leasing companies. This LOI with Rockton, the second lessor following Aerolease Aviation, enables the company to accelerate sales efforts in the regional jet market. Mitsubishi Aircraft remains firmly committed to the success of the MRJ program as well as the growth of Japan’s aviation industry.

About Rockton AB
Rockton is a regional passenger aircraft leasing company with a long history of helping airlines grow their business in a flexible and financially effective manner. The focus is on the most efficient regional aircraft types, which are typically made available on operating leases. Rockton has been operating since 1998 and is headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden.

About MRJ
Mitsubishi Regional Jet is a family of 70~90-seat next-generation aircraft featuring the Pratt & Whitney's revolutionary PurePower® engine and state-of-the-art aerodynamics to drastically reduce fuel consumption, noise, and emissions, while offering top-class operational benefits, an outstanding cabin designed for heightened passenger flying comfort with large overhead bins. The MRJ carried out the first flight on November 11, 2015.

This would have been one of the nice Eurowhite liveries.. To bad it's a leasing company livery that will never become reality.
