hkskyline's HONG KONG 2010 Photo Collection III

Part 1 : http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=1048245
Part 2 : http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=1107533

310. AIG has been replaced by AIA, but the lighting scheme has not changed.

313. Not much traffic on the weekend.

314. I really like Bank of China's new lighting scheme.

317. This was the city's first flashy neon skyscraper. To think that started over a decade ago!

330. Heading into the narrow streets and markets, a vibrant urban scheme emerges. These market streets are only steps from the above neon skyscraper.

349. Can't believe they even put English on the gate. These are traditional gates with Chinese names engraved on them.

352. Miniature exhibitions seem quite popular. There were plenty of sightseers and photographers out in force that day.

358. Traditional herbal tea?

359. Traditional haircut?

360. This bus terminus may soon be a collective memory. Planners want to turn this space into a public piazza.

361. A hot summer day. The tourists are all hiding downstairs in the shade.

365. There was a dragon boat competition happening in the harbour, although the actual festival for this event was quite a while back.

366. Large boats cordoned off a section of the harbour to make way for a protected zone with lanes.

375. Nearby, the pedestrian bridges at the Cross-Harbour Tunnel offer a good vantage point to spot buses.

378. This is a new bus model in the fleet.

379. Inside, the bus company's mascot covers the seats.

383. There is a very specific part of Hong Kong that is famous for goose dishes. Here's an example.

384. Residential buildings are getting taller and taller.

387. With a good bike, you can head to this spot at the quieter end of the airport runway to spot airplanes.

390. You can even see Macau's skyline in the distance.

391. Tram ads change often, so I'm always on my toes to capture the latest features.

395. Skyscrapers peer above older, shorter buildings

396. This part of town is a bit hilly, but nevertheless densely populated.

401. It was too hot to eat outdoors though.

403. A renovated entrance. Maintenance is key to making older buildings liveable.

406. Midlevels is not necessarily a great place to live. It's wall-to-wall buildings. It's hard enough trying to get a view, while at street-level, there is a lot of traffic along the narrow roads.

416. An afternoon stroll on a hazy day. A typhoon was nearby, so it was quite muggy.

422. Nearby, work is under way to build a new train station for the high-speed train link to China.

428. This section will be the approach into the station.

432. This map will surely change in the years to come.

470. Shatin has a mix of both private and public housing. Here is public housing :

473. Meanwhile, closer to the train station, new private skyscrapers are popping up.

476. In this part of Hong Kong, houses would not cost an arm and a leg.

477. These homes cost a fortune to buy.

484. Urban farming

486. Haw Par Mansion was built in 1935 by Aw Boon Haw as a family residence in the Chinese Renaissance style, combining both eastern and western elements.

487. The government extended the open house due to overwhelming public response.

526. The new town of Tseung Kwan O is still a project under construction.

532. It's a tall and dense neighbourhood.

535. Look right

539. Yet another construction site.

540. In the distance is LOHAS Park, built on reclaimed land that is now giving a bad smell to the new residents.

542. Graffiti for business - very practical.

544. Despite the density, turn around and it's nature all over again.

547. Some remnants of Hong Kong's fishing industry remains in this concrete jungle. Although there are fishing villages in the outlying areas, their traces are more rare here in this new town.

559. Tai Mo Shan is a popular vantage point but it is not easy to get to. It's a long journey uphill on a narrow road and it's not accessible by public transport.

562. But the views are great - you can see Shenzhen as well as Hong Kong Island.

565. The airport was in full view and even Macau's skyline was visible across the water.

566. Lowrises in the New Territories.

567. Shek Kong airfield is used for military and leisure crafts.

571. Tsuen Wan

574. Tai Mo Shan's name means 'foggy hill', and it rightfully lives up to its name.
