NEW PROJECT: Gleneagles Medini Hospital
Client
Pantai Hospitals Sdn Bhd (Parkway Group)

B+H+STH recently won the design competition for this 450 -bed complex which will be built in 3 phases on a 14-acre site. Regional materials will enhance the building exterior and tie the hospital to the architecture and imagery of other iconic buildings throughout the region. Selective use of glass on the facades will project an image of openness and offer daylight and views. The design includes commitments to sustainability and providing a healing environment which also maximizes healthcare efficiencies.

Guiding principles tantamount to the project include: a welcoming and inviting environment; a thorough master plan strategy accommodating growth and future use; clear separation of spaces per clinical services and user groups; identifiable and readable major entrances; controlled and clear vehicular circulation; clear internal and external circulation; a positive work environment promoting health; a layout that anticipates change with flexible design; appropriate architecture language and expression; and finally, a healing environment with landscape and natural light.

40 new hotels in Johor to cater to expected influx of tourists
By Bernama Wednesday, 11 July 2012 20:33
http://www.theedgeproperty.com/news-...-tourists.html

JOHOR BAHRU (July 11): The Johor hotel industry is well positioned to cater to the expected influx of tourists with the opening of some 40 new hotels in the state by 2025, says the Malaysian Association of Hotels (MAH).

Its chairman for Johor chapter, Tengku Ahmad Faizal Tengku Mohamed, said the association projected that 2,000 additional rooms are available this year while another 3,000 rooms are slated to enter the market in 2014.

"In total, we are looking at about 40 hotels set to be opened in Johor by 2025, mostly in the higher-star categories and with big names like Sheraton, Traders Hotel, Datai, Renaissance, Aman and others," he told Bernama in an email interview recently.

Johor is poised to proclaim the status as the theme parks and amusement capital of Malaysia with the impending opening of several major tourist attractions such as Legoland, Hello Kitty Town, Little Big Club and LAT theme park.

The Johor-Legoland theme park, the first in Asia is set to open its doors to the public this September.

While all the theme parks are located in Nusajaya, near Johor Baharu, recent media reports have also stated that Khazanah Nasional's subsidiary will open two theme parks in Desaru.

Themed Attractions and Resorts Sdn Bhd (TAR) is reportedly investing RM267 million to build and operate two theme parks, the Ocean Quest marine park and Ocean Splash water park in Desaru.

Both theme parks are scheduled to open in mid-2014.

The RM7 billion Mersing Laguna project to transform the sleepy town of Mersing to an international tourist destination is also set to have its very own water theme park.

Although the upcoming hotels are in higher-star categories, Tengku Ahmad Faizal nevertheless believed that there is also a need for lower-star hotels and accommodations.

"We will need lower category rooms, below the three-star category to cater to middle and lower-middle income groups and serviced apartments for families as well," he said.

Asked whether the opening of the new hotels would cause an oversupply of rooms, he said it would not be a problem if the hotels are open on schedule in tandem with the opening of the tourist attractions.

"If the hotels open according to schedule, together with the opening of tourists attractions and theme parks like the Legoland, Little Big Club and LAT theme parks, the room supply should just be nice. In this case, there will definitely not be an oversupply of rooms," he said.

On other efforts to bring in more tourists to Johor, Tengku Ahmad Faizal opined that the Senai International Airport needs to open up to more international and regional flights.

Thus far, he said Johor is not well-connected in terms of air links and is currently riding on Singapore's Changi Airport to lure foreign tourists to the state. — Bernama[/QUOTE]

TAR to splash RM1b on Johor theme parks
Published: 2012/08/02
http://www.btimes.com.my/Current_New...#ixzz22JqzquTv

THEMED Attractions and Resort (TAR) will invest a total of RM1.1 billion to build theme parks in Johor.

TAR, a unit under Khazanah Nasional Bhd, has been given an initial kitty of RM2.3 billion to fund its investments.

A major portion of the developments so far has been in Johor.

"The theme parks just go well with the other things Khazanah is doing here in Johor. It is one of the pieces of the jigsaw puzzle. Over time, we will be looking at other areas but (our current projects) are kind of enough for the moment," TAR chief executive officer (CEO) Tunku Datuk Ahmad Burhanuddin told Business Times after a media briefing to announce the details of its Puteri Harbour Family Park project in Nusajaya, Johor.

He did say however, that his people are constantly looking out for its next project.

Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA) CEO Datuk Ismail Ibrahim believes that there is still demand for more theme parks and hopes to see them more spread within and near the Iskandar Malaysia area.

It was reported that Johor is likely to be the home of 11 theme parks in the near future. Seven of these theme parks will be owned by TAR.

Besides Legoland, which is due to open in September, Desaru Coast project and Puteri Harbour Family Park, TAR is also working on its Kidzania project in Singapore.

The first Kidzania in Kuala Lumpur is already operational.

Puteri Harbour will require an investment of RM115 million, Desaru Coast RM267 milion while Legoland will take up RM720 million.

Legoland is jointly developed by IDR Resorts and Merlin Entertainments.

A four-level family theme park, Puteri Harbour Family Park is to be unveiled in November this year.

The theme park will feature Lat's Place, Sanrio Hello Kitty Town and The Little Big Club which features characters like Pingu and Bob The Builder.
