keep in mind you're also viewing two sides of the building (diagonally) it makes the building look wider.

If you count the ratio the rendering is correct, the building is roughly 14 times taller than it is wide.

Is it not a perfect square?

I thought it was 93' by 93'

Where did this come from? O_O

Did this have a height increase? How could I not know about a 1400 foot building.

The new renders just confirm for me that this is an oversized version of Vinoly's Domino Sugar Refinery plan. The architect is playing with cartoonish, abstract forms of NYC buildings. In the Domino Sugar plan, the forms are disaggregated reflections of Waterside and the Manhattan skyline across the river. At 432 Park Ave, they rise as a singular column. I'm not terribly impressed but as others have said, the cladding will be everything.

Larger night render... those mechanical floors will be lit up.

The facade is good for playing tetris.

More truckloads of big rebar being unloaded this morning...going up!

I was just thinking about this...the terraces will be open to develop greenery...hanging gardens in the sky

Another interesting note is that this building is being built in 'segments' not unlike the Shanghai Tower

Forget what he says as he appears to have a intense bias against the building and it seems likely that he is attempting to persuade people to turn against the tower. If you like it mainly because of that there is no shame in it. The height is a major part of the design. There is nothing wrong with being enthusiastic about the building due to its height. In fact, the simple yet profound pattern of repeating windows extending across such a tall surface is what turns me on combined with its smooth light colored facade that reminds of me of minimalist Asian skyscrapers from the 80/90s. Repetition of simple forms can be beautiful and logical, almost zen-like. Not every scraper needs to be busy and ostentatious to be a success.

I have an intense hate for this tower because it is so thin, yet so tall, it overpowers the skyline, and makes the ESB look much smaller. Frankly, I am worried it will destroy the midtown skyline.

There's only one way to break the 700 ft midtown plateau, and that is to build taller. This tower will look fine when the others join in.

Don't worry, other supertall towers are going join the show pretty soon.

"It will destroy the skyline!"

People have been saying this for every supertall proposal in the last 5 years, as if the skyline they speak of will even be around by the time the project is finished. This is the biggest game-changing construction boom since the 20s, as far as the skyline is concerned.

People will come to appreciate this tower in time. I do hope the facade is a bit more interesting than these renderings indicate, however.

Apparently, some people don't like change. NYC can't stay a museum of old buildings for God's sake!
