Funny how there's not even a clear render indicating how this will actually look (with many visualizations around) - and users are trying to tell us people should accept this monstrosity without even questioning it. This insensibility and phlegm is scary, really. Good night for our metropolises.

(Looks like Manhattan could need more NIMBYs with influence...)

It's funny because 100 years ago there were people saying the exact same thing about the now famous art-deco scrapers.

Funny how you people are simply not able to stop this bullshit discussion

and btw after my analysis I'm pretty sure this is the most accurate and recent render.

yankeesfan1000: We know the proportions here.

I'm not even opposing to tall structures of any kind. But this thing attacks all laws of human aesthetics and is nothing but a mere provocation. Just like most brutalist buildings are.

Patrykus: There are no bullshit discussions when it comes to aesthetics. Tastes differ, but when we're not to discuss aesthetics and architecture of a building at this forum, where else?

But perhaps I'll move this out to the Architecture forums.

You know such comparisons just don't work. Art Deco architecture follows human aesthetical laws.
As opposed to brutalist architecture.

Please do.

The square that's visible on site, base for a crane?

I completely agree. But seriously how many times we discussed the very same thing in this thread? And how many times the same people expressed they don't like it, and the same people responded getting in pointless fight. If random guy comes here and say he finds this architecture great or shit I can't care less - he has the right to express his/her opinion. But why I have to read people repeating themselves for the hundred time?

So you're saying if this box has smaller boxes on top of it...and pointy details at the top, it would follow human aesthetic laws (whatever that means)...? Give me a break.
In fact, given the amount of space on this site, it would be impossible to have a good looking art deco or postmodern, building without it looking way too skinny at that height.

I'm all for art deco being revived, but NYC needs some modern landmarks as well, besides the WTC.

It can be annoying, definitely. But you don't have to read those posts, now have you?

There are 2 options:
a) Ignoring those discussions/posts/users.
b) Participating in the aesthetic discussions.

Ranting about people discussing the issues related to this project ain't an option.

It sure does. I'm a great enthusiast when it comes to Tower Verre for instance!
But what you can observe there is: It's generally accepted, by a broad public. Because it follows human aesthetics when it comes to proportions, detailing etc.

But it's not a minority that considers 432 Park Ave to be ugly. And that's because of their natural way perceiving there's something not right about it. Others may find beauty in its brutalist style, but that's just socialisation, "a taught" perception of beauty if you want to put it like that. That's not natural at all. But of course culture is an aspect here.

That's the big difference between good and crude modern architecture.
The understanding of natural and cultural aesthetics.

Discussion is fine but this is broken record what we have here.

The same arguments and the same counterarguments has been said by the same people in tens of rounds. What's the point? If you can't convince someone telling him once nothing will change if you repeat your statement tens of times.

And yeah this is enough irritating having this thread bumped to only find out that there has been nothing new posted.

And you know this how? Can you link to polling data that backs this up?

I have never heard anyone in NY complain about this building.

Everytime I look at the webcam I don't get how this building could fit into the space being excevated.

Can someone draw a box on a screen capture of the cam showing where on that plot of land this will rise?

Thanks

What will be in the place of demolished tenements that were standing near 57th street? If they won't build there anything, walls of sorrounding buildings will be highly visible ruining the effect at the street level.
