Aren't foundations usually the longest to build? Or, maybe I think that since the WTC foundations took several years to make?

If so, this thing looks like it's really flying! Seems like it's getting built soo fast. Make me think how fast it will rise once the lower levels are done and it starts climbing. I bet even faster than one57, since it's skinnier, and also steel I assume rather than the one57's concrete, as I assume concrete takes much longer to erect than steel.

I bet this thing will top out in about year from now

Isn't that a little bit too optimistic, than they have to finish the base and after that they have to build about two floors per week.

Two floors per week will not be a problem with a building this small (typical floor sq footage size). 2 day cycle = 5 floors every 2 weeks.

I'd have one small question, will this building be only concrete like 157 or a composite steel/concrete structure like the WTC towers?

It is rather thin, but the general view can be fixed.

My main problem is that it look so "alone" - Just build 2 of them...

One on each side of Park.

Sometimes I have this feeling half of the people here don't really get the idea of twin structures. The picture posted above is best prove of this. It's horrible and out of place to say the least. I'm glad it's never going to be like that.

Went by the site today and took some pictures:

There are no holes through the wall for viewing. The only thing you can see through are the small holes for the chains to lock the doors.

This is from the 56th Street side.

Nice pics. The footprint of the tower looks so small in them, this building will be a true engineering marvel

Hey there again, 600West218! How unreal to watch the pictures you took in my hometown, then click User CP to wind up watching the pictures you took at 432 Park Ave

Sort of, although the area as a whole is quite big.

One thing that struck me seeing it in person rather than on the web-cam is the work they are doing is quite far down. I am guessing it is at least 5 stories below grade so they have a lot of work to do just to get to street level.

I'd much rather be back in Belgium that peaking through tiny little holes just to see a big hole in the ground

Hopefully someone punches a good size hole in the wall so we can take some decent pictures.

Thanks for the pictures, it gives a better perspective to what's going on on the webcam.

And on the webcam we can see that today was another productive day. Currently the only people on the site are the working with the drilling rig that is drilling holes into the bedrock for the rebar for the core.

Ah, so that is what that is. Thanks for explaining. I assume there will be some big concrete pours in the center soon.

Do people think they'll have a regular crane there soon? They excavators are running out of room to maneuver as the base gets more and more built up.

It looks like they have some really long rods - like 100 feet. Is it normal for rebar to be that long?
