Thanks for the updates. Surprised they haven't removed at least one of the excavators. Doesn't seem like they need all three big ones now.

As progress continues on the pour of the core, the southeast corner (56St./Park Av) tower footing is being worked on. The dowels that were prepared by the rebar bending crew have been placed alongside. Soon the bottom reinforcement will be placed, and the column reinforcement will be placed in preparation for the footing to be poured.

It is probable that the two remaining south (56St.) footing pads will be poured today, perhaps immediately after the core pour is completed, using the concrete pump.

The three west (Madison Av) tower footings with column reinforcement visible have a wall form alongside that was placed earlier this week. It is probable that a wall with pilasters will be cast there at some time in the future.

A busy day today.

Update:
Drill has been located on the bench (see right hand of the site, by the field office) for relocation to pads. Drilling may begin today on the first of the five pads poured. Concrete pouring of the last two tower pads complete.

The drill has just been moved from the bench, as now being relayed to the second excavator for placement atop the first pad to be drilled.

Thanks so much for describing to those of us who have no expertise on this what we see happening on the webcam. We truly appreciate it.

I am truly enjoying watching this webcam, (actually addicted, I must add!) and also enjoy describing what I see. Most folks do not get to see the actual building procedure of a high-rise building such as this, and we should be grateful that the developers of this building has been generous enough to share the building progress with us through the webcam and the black and white photographs.

Now for a quick update: the drill is now drilling the first pad. Workers are installing the forms for the wall that is parallel to 56 Street. Rebar has already been installed for this wall. At the other side of the site, workers are working on the corner (56 St./Park Av) tower footing. It looks like the plate washers have been installed on the upper ends of the tendons in this footing form.

I have a question, why are the footprints of the perimeter columns so thick compared to the perimeter columns already built that touch the right wall of the site from the 56th view?

The footprints are this big because the drilling machine needs a smooth surface. The actual columns won't be as big as the footprint. On the left side you can see from the rebar of the 3 columns on the left side that the collums are smaller then the footprint.

And if you look at the older pictures you can also see that the first columns also had a big footprint.

I was wondering what the empty space to the left will be for. Just a square pit?

According to the blueprints that have hit the internet it will be a "proposed 1 story building" that will house the car elevators to the underground car park and an underground loading and unloading area for trucks serving the hotel and the shops.

Today's activities:
It appears that concrete might be poured for the wall that was formed on the west side. I say this, as the 56th Street barricades have been re-arranged, suggesting that a concrete delivery may occur. In addition, a work platform has been added to the top of the wall section parallel to 56th Street. If this wall is not poured today, there is a possibility that the southeast (56th Street/Park Av) corner tower footing may be poured. Column reinforcement has just been placed in that corner tower footing form. Drilling continues on the south footing pads, and workers are adding reinforcement to the other two east (Park Av) footing forms.

What happens when they finish these footings? Will they then level off and pour a concrete floor over everything else?

I'll consider it a big accomplishment the day we see no more dirt in this site. I am hoping we are not far off from that day.
