How many contractors does a supertall usually have?

thats kind of a difficult question if you read it back to yourself......

i would just consider the things that need to get done and the things you can group into operations

superstructure concrete, superstructure steel, reinforcing steel, carpenters, steamfitters, electricians, plumbers, glazers, painters, ornamental trades.

The new concrete next to the gate is already dry and strong enough to walk on.

Most likely, in fact it is, a design/build project in order to speed up the work. Even before the design is finalized, construction begins, instead of the usual design, bid, then build. Another name for the design/build is fast tracking. It would have a construction manager, who advises the owner (Macklowe/CIM) with methods for efficient constructibilty of the building. As far as contractors, there would be a slew of them: demolition, excavating/foundation, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, superstructure, fire protection, security, etc, etc, etc., as a previous poster mentioned.

Love it!

I realize there's mixed feelings regarding the design of this building but personally I'm really looking forward to seeing it rise.
Like it or not this building will be the most dramatic change to the NY skyline since the completion of the original Twin Towers in the early 70s.
At the time of its completion it'll have the tallest roof of any skyscraper ever build in NYC!...exciting times!

I'm looking forward to it!.. great things happening in New York!

Not sure about over in the states but in the UK we usually have the client employee one main contractor who oversees all the works who then employes sub-contractors to do all the seperate tasks.

It will be the tallest only for a short time. 225 W 57th is likely to surpass it.

The site clear up seems to have started this morning with the triple boom loading remaining materials onto a flat bed truck.

There's usually a groundworks contractor and an 'above ground' contractor; but in large projects like this it's likely the same contractor can do both.

Interesting, they may be taking out even the stairs. I guess the new contractor will have to be lifted in by crane :-)

There were some stairs on the 56th street side straight up to the trailer/office. They seem to be gone now.

I think they are still there, however there is not a lot left really to be removed.

Amazing what a clean site it is. I think the excavator is there just to get the blue moving platform out when it is done with whatever it needs to do.

Someone before brought up that the next phase might need to wait for a 28 day curing time. But I think all the main concrete pours, certainly the towers of concrete with rebar sticking out, were almos all poured more than 28 days ago. The last two to three weeks have just been digging out the ramp and doing the last concrete slab.

So if they wanted to I would think they could be in there continueing work within a week.

Just the cherrypicker remaining now then the triple boom can be removed. The 28 day rules really just for standard concrete, this site will probably have hardeners added to the mix to give strength fast. The cherrypicker has been driven on the new slab today and that will weigh about 6ton so about a 1.5ton point load per wheel. Fingers crossed a super structure contractor will start site set up on Monday but only time will tell.

Where exactly is the building going to rise?? The site is way to big for the slim rectangular structure of the tower. What will the rest of the space be used for. Retail?
