Definitely forming the first basement level of the retail building along inner inner wall forms on the core...this is so cool...I think this is going to progress very quickly now

All the necessary building permits have been filled, so it appears this is full steam ahead.

And according to http://www.nyc.gov/html/dot/html/mot...wkndtraf.shtml:

"East 56th Street between Madison Avenue and Park Avenue: This street will be closed 6am Saturday to 9pm Sunday to facilitate crane operation."

Any speculation on exactly where they will place the crane?
Orange marked square in the foreground on 56st camera?

I'd say 432, 3WTC, and Hudson Yards South in the next trio. Then 2WTC, HY-North, and 225W57 in the third round. Wow!

To me that centre bit looks like hoarding in preparation for the crane, to prevent unauthorised personal gain access. And climb the crane? It only looks fairly thin plywood. Not strong enough for shuttering a core

I though this building didn't have a core anyway? I though the building itself was effectively was the supporting structure?

Surely it won't be starting in the next six months. They haven't even released the official renders yet for 225 W 57th yet, have they? Because all I have seen are the old Shard-design possibilities...

Extell does that. They built One57 and didn't release renderings until the tower was like 10 stories above street level.

But back on topic I agree with spectre. 432, Hudson Yards South and 3 WTC should be the next supertalls to top out.

Alright, I wasn't aware of that. I just started following constuction in New York a year and a half ago. Thanks.

Yes it definitely has a core and they are forming it. that is not plywood but modular steel forms, I watched them unload them from the truck in person.
The scale of things you see on the web cams is deceiving. Look at some of the gallery photos below of earlier construction and you can see how massive some of the materials really are. Much more so then they appeared on the web cam views. This is due to the extreme wide angles of the web cams.
