I wonder what the plan is for the one corner where the 'slab' is a different color kind of beige. I'm sure they will fill it in eventually but it just seems a little unusual to me. Oh and the speed on this tower so far is just staggering.

I believe the corner in question will house a vehicle lift.

That is correct far left of 56st camera will be a two bay truck elevator
the other large rectangle you see against the 56st bulkhead (visible only from 57st camera) will be the electrical cabinet for the complex

Maybe the are putting in two tower cranes? One on the 56st side where you see square outlined in orange and maybe another on the 57st street side
in the square hole in the forms of the retail space? Any thoughts?

That hole looks to have exactly the same dimensions as the orange tape foundations, so to me it seems that it indeed might be the place for a second tower crane. If this is the case I guess that would make the construction speed even faster

The only thing is that the spot on 57th street side doesn't have the foundations that the tower crane spot on the 56th street side has.

I dunno, but maybe summoning a second tower crane was a recent decision made by the new contractor so the old contractor didn't know about it and therefore didn't prepare foundations for it?

Kanto, the two different contractors would of coordinated with each other and everything will be on the construction plan, no contractor would miss out a crane base the detail is too key plus it costs a fair amount if money to form a crane base, everything related to the construction of this scheme would if been planned around a year a go with all contractors coordinating with each other

I did see a shot of the core that had a square that could accommodate a core crane. Just a thought

Preparations begin for the installation of the climbing tower crane at 432 Park Avenue. Two portable light towers have arrived, and the workhorse Link-Belt crane lowered one of them alongside the crane footing. As the days have been getting progressively shorter, it is dark now at the normal start time of 6AM, and even 7AM for the main crew shift. With E.56 Street between Park Avenue and Madison Avenue closed off for the weekend, it is expected that crane erection will commence early, requiring the light towers.

Could be just a shorter crane just for the retail building...as the tower forms it will be cut off from 56 st so maybe they want a crane on 57 for the shorter building...guess we will find out soon

Any thoughts on what that other slightly larger square depression just to the right also on the 56st side is for? I do not see anything that corresponds to that on any of the drawings...

jconyc,

I was told by Lend-Lease that that depression you see will be for the Alimak material hoist. The material hoist has a mast, or tower, similar to that of the tower crane, with a material cage on either side of the mast. Here you see two such hoists on 600 W.42 Street (Silver Towers) while under construction.
