Stick around for the yellow piece (a frame) wait until you see how big it is raised. Great shots...

What I see now is that the crane will take away a big part from the view on the 56th cam.

Back on topic, it's safe to assume this crane will reach ~400m height (from top to bottom). Will this be a NY record? US?

Those guys don't know what fear is.
Here you see them connecting the cables between the mast and the boom.

If you notice that cable is actually rope. What they do is reeve the sheaves with rope first, then once it's on all the sheaves they will attach the cable to the end then use the assembly winch on the crane to fish the actual cable through. It's alot easier then handling the heavy cable. You will be able to see the difference in color when they start fishing it through

This is amazing to watch live. I can't believe how fast the whole process is and to think all this on a Saturday. Just think we get to watch this whole thing over again once they erect the second crane.

Funkyskunk2,

Great job with the moving image of the crane construction for all the folks who didn't get a chance to see the operation live or see today's action on the webcams. This nice quick moving image covered the essential procedure that was used to erect the crane.

Thanks to all who took the time today to visit the site to take terrific pictures.

Once again, we can thank the developers who set up the webcams for our viewing pleasure of the construction process.

And thanks to the gentleman who posted the information PDF on the Favco-Favelle crane to give everyone familiarity with the workings of a climbing tower crane.

With the crane now officially in place, construction Monday will proceed in earnest.

still not crazy about the design on this one, althought the height and its eventual impact on the skyline will be impressive, but kudo's to NY for being about the only city in the US with anything going on

I can't wait for this tower to be above street level. Then I'll start making diagrams for it and 3WTC. I wonder which one will top out first but my bet goes to 432 Park
